- The accession of the municipality represents a further step in the care and protection of victims of gender violence
The City of Cercedilla has completed the fundamental procedures for its accession to the integral system of monitoring and protection of victims of gender violence VioGén with the signing of the “Protocol of collaboration and coordination between the State Security Forces and Local Police Forces for the protection of victims of domestic and gender violence”, signed by the Ministry of the Interior and the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces, on March 13, 2006.
It was during the extraordinary Local Security Board convened for the purpose, co-chaired by the government delegate, Francisco Martín Aguirre, and the mayor of the municipality, David José Martín Molpeceres, and attended by members of the municipal government team, representatives of the Civil Guard, Local Police, Civil Protection and Community of Madrid.
In addition, the Operational Procedure for coordination and collaboration between the Civil Guard Command of Madrid and the City of Cercedilla for a comprehensive response against gender violence has been signed and the Police Coordination Table has been established.
This step has been possible thanks to the multiple meetings and contacts between the Civil Guard and the Consistory, and the support of the Coordination Unit against Violence against Women of the Government Delegation whose head, Eva Corrales Melero, has also attended the Board.
“Today is an important day for Cercedilla and for the whole of the Community of Madrid because a new municipality joins the VioGén system and, therefore, more women will be protected using all the resources we have at our disposal, based on coordination between the Local Police and the Civil Guard” said Francisco Martin Aguirre.
56 municipalities in the VioGén system
“The incorporation of Cercedilla is great news and hopefully will serve as inspiration for other municipalities that, unfortunately, today, are outside the VioGén system, not taking advantage of all opportunities for the coordination and effective protection of women victims of violence. The example that Cercedilla gives us today is very important and I want to thank the Corporation, the Local Police and the Civil Guard” he added.
For his part, the mayor of Cercedilla has shown his gratitude “to the Government Delegation for the collaboration it has always maintained with the City Council and the Civil Guard. We gladly join with the Local Police so that the administrations will all go one by one in the fight against gender violence and the victims feel protected.”
After today’s signing, there are already 56 municipalities in Madrid that are in the VioGén system (47 fully integrated and 9 with the procedure initiated).
