The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, highlighted today that the Government allocates 12 million euros to the repair of the state roads in the province of Pontevedra within the Special Plan of Repair and Conservation activated by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility after those caused by the storms of recent months. He did so during the visit to the emergency works that are being executed in the N-640 as it passes through Cuntis, accompanied by the mayor, Manuel Campos, and by the head of the provincial unit of the State Road Demarcation in Galicia, José Manuel Piris.
Pedro Blanco explained that this extraordinary investment will allow us to act on more than 40 sections of the roads of the province, correcting the damages caused by the storms and strengthening road safety. In this regard, he stressed that the Special Plan represents an immediate response from the Government to ensure that the State network continues to offer adequate conditions of movement.
The delegate highlighted the Government’s commitment to road safety and stressed that the objective is to act where necessary to guarantee safe roads and driving in the best conditions throughout Galicia. During the visit, Pedro Blanco explained that the emergency action that is being executed in the N-640 as it passes through Cuntis, in a stretch that circulates more than 7,300 vehicles a day, has an investment of almost 650,000 euros. This intervention is part of the works to repair the damage caused by the storms and will allow to improve the state of this road that connects different municipalities in the interior of the provincia.El delegate stressed that this action is also an important step to improve the state of the N-640, since it is complemented with other interventions planned on this road in the municipalities of Lalín, Silleda, Agolada, A Estrada and Caldas de Reis, within the Special Plan. In addition, he recalled that these emergency works are independent of the project of integral asphalt of the N-640 in its passage through the city of Cuntis valued in more than 12 million euros, in which the Ministry of Transport is currently working and that the Government hopes to be able to tender as soon as possible to start the works this year o.En this context, Pedro Blanco thanked the work and commitment of the mayor of Cuntis, Manuel Campos, for his commitment to promote the improvement of the infrastructures of the municipality.
The Special Plan of Repair of Roads of the State in Galicia is endowed with 167 million euros in 2026, of which 38 million correspond to extraordinary investments to repair the damages caused by the storms.
This plan will allow action to be taken at about 2,000 points of the state network in Galicia, carry out asphalt work on 262 kilometers of roads, intervene on 1.2 million square meters of surface and extend more than 260,000 tons of asphalt. The works will mobilize around 200 operators, 75 machines and 60 trucks.
Pedro Blanco recalled that this investment represents the largest annual effort in road conservation in the recent history of Galicia and stressed that the Government’s commitment to improving the roads translates into 737 million euros destined since 2018 for the safety and modernization of the state network in the community.
