Unemployment falls in the Community of Madrid in December and consolidates an annual fall of around 6% in Spain

Unemployment in the Community of Madrid fell by 1,504 people in December, bringing the total number of unemployed people to 274,930. In year-on-year terms, unemployment in the region has fallen by 9,099 people (-3.20%), in a context of clear positive developments in employment. At the national level, unemployment registered a year-on-year drop of 5.94%, linking more than four and a half years of consecutive declines and reaching the lowest youth unemployment in the historical series.

In the whole of Spain, the number of unemployed people registered in the offices of the Public Service of State Employment (SEPE) decreased in December by 16,291 people (-0.67%), bringing the total to 2,408,670 people. In year-on-year terms, unemployment has fallen by 152,048 people, consolidating a sustained trend of improvement in the labor market.

Youth unemployment continues to mark positive historical records. In December, unemployment among people under the age of 25 fell by 11,470 (-6.09%), to 176,852 young people, the lowest figure since records were available.

By sex, the decline in female unemployment stands out, which fell by 22,096 women in the last month, bringing the total to 1,443,999. Compared to December of the previous year, unemployment among women fell by 87,563 people (-5.72%).

By economic sectors, unemployment fell in Services (-14,287 people), Agriculture (-1,531) and in the No Previous Employment group (-7,725), reflecting the dynamism of the labor market, while the increases recorded in Construction and Industry respond to seasonal factors typical of the month of December.

The recruitment also maintains a positive evolution. In December, 1,230,356 contracts were registered in Spain, of which 458,808 were indefinite, representing 37.29% of the total, reinforcing the stability and quality of employment.
