Francisco Martín visited this morning Los Santos de la Humosa, one of the municipalities that has one of the 64 official observation points that have been registered in 61 municipalities of the Community of Madrid to see the total solar eclipse of August 12.
There he insisted on recommending to the citizens that they come to enjoy the eclipse to these locations, “first, because they have a guarantee that they will be able to see the eclipse well and, second, because also the security conditions, the attention to evacuation in a situation that can be given in an emergency is guaranteed”.
He also pointed out that of the 64, 39 are going to have a visibility of the eclipse of one hundred percent, among which is that of Los Santos de la Humosa, which makes it even more special, he added.
The authorities recommend going to these official points to be able to enjoy the event in safety and evacuation in case of emergency. They are spaces selected to contemplate the eclipse in a safer and more orderly way, avoiding crowds and facilitating the action of security and emergency services.
It is totally discouraged to improvise the contemplation of the phenomenon a road, an arcén or a natural space. One of the reasons why it is not prudent to choose an uncontrolled location in the natural environment is the risk of fires, given that the region will be at high risk this Wednesday due to high temperatures. “We must maximize prudence to avoid having to suffer any catastrophe as unfortunately we have lived in our region not so long ago,” he said.
In addition, the Delegation has requested the Community of Madrid for these same reasons to restrict pedestrian access in the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park and the Cuenca Alta del Manzanares Regional Park, in addition to the transit of motor vehicles in the public mountains.
For the day of August 12, it is advisable to go in time to the observation points and share vehicles whenever possible, plan the trips in advance, consult the state of the roads and the mobility recommendations of each municipality, avoid parking on roadsides, roads or accesses that may be necessary for emergency vehicles and do not travel to points whose capacity is complete.
It is also recommended to take extreme precautions in natural spaces against the high risk of fires, respect the restrictions and follow at all times the indications of the Security Forces and Bodies, Civil Protection and emergency services.
Self-protection measures
Along with these safety councils, the government delegate has recalled the importance of self-protection measures such as the use of appropriate glasses, with the appropriate filter and verified. Of course, bearing in mind that with them you can not drive.
It is also considered “extremely important, not to light fire under any circumstances and collect all the waste generated”.
Observation points
The enabled observation points are spaces identified to be able to enjoy the eclipse in a safe and orderly way. Going to these places allows to properly manage the expected high influx of people and vehicles, avoid concentrations in unprepared areas and facilitate the work of the emergency services and the Security Forces.
The 66 observation points (30 on non-urban land and 36 on urban land) are located in 63 municipalities, since the towns of Canencia, Lozoya and Ambite have double points. Some have parking spaces enabled such as Buitrago del Lozoya (750 places), La Cabrera (400 places) or Valdepiélagos (300 places). However, the recommendation is to use public transport whenever possible, as numerous shuttles, buses and reinforced trains have been enabled on the lines leading to the areas of high visibility of the eclipse.
