The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, supervised today in Barreiros the emergency works that the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility is executing in the N-634 to repair the damages caused by the last storms within the Special Road Plan in Galicia, where he remarked that “it is already more than 20 days simultaneously asphalting in the four Galician provinces, an unprecedented deployment of technical and human resources”. He was accompanied by the deputy delegate of the Government in Lugo, Olimpia López; the mayor of Barreiros, Ana Ermida; the second deputy mayor, Carmen Veiga; and heads of the State Road Demarcation in Galicia.
Pedro Blanco said that this work “will continue in the coming weeks to guarantee the mobility and road safety of the citizens”, and explained that in the case of the province of Lugo, the plan involves an investment of around 9 million euros, of which more than 3.3 million correspond to the LU-02 sector, which includes the action in Barreiros, with interventions also in other key routes such as the La-8, the N-640 or the N-642.
The works that are being carried out mainly consist of milling and replacing the road surface in the most deteriorated sections, with variable thicknesses second the condition of the road, with the aim of improving traffic conditions and strengthening road safety.
The delegate stressed that this Special Plan mobilizes 38 million extraordinary euros that, added to the ordinary investment, allow to reach in 2026 the record figure of 167 million euros destined for the conservation of the state roads in Galicia, the largest annual investment in recent history. In this regard, he recalled that the Government of Spain has invested 737 million euros since 2018 in the modernization and security of the state network in Galicia, and reaffirmed the commitment to continue acting where necessary, with large and small interventions, to guarantee safe and in good condition roads throughout the territory.
The Special Plan will allow action to be taken at about 2,000 points of the state network in Galicia, with asphalt work on 262 kilometers of roads, the intervention on 1.2 million square meters of surface and the extension of more than 260,000 tons of asphalt, through a wide deployment of means that includes about 200 operators, 75 machines and 60 trucks. Pedro Blanco stressed that this investment effort strengthens territorial cohesion and economic activity, while guaranteeing modern road infrastructures, safe and adapted to the needs of Galicia.
