- The Community of Madrid registered 189,212 contracts in March, 25,685 more than in the previous month, which represents an increase of 15.71%.
- At the national level, unemployment fell by 22,934 people in March and stood at 2,419,712 with a year-on-year drop of 6.2%.
The unemployment recorded in the Community of Madrid in March 2026 rose by 0.12% compared to February, adding 342 more unemployed, reaching a total of 282,625 people. This total number of unemployed is the lowest figure in a month of March since 2008.
With respect to February 2025, 11,192 fewer unemployed have been registered in the region of Madrid, which represents a year-on-year decrease of 3.81%.
By economic sectors, with respect to February, unemployment increases in Services with 491 more people; in Agriculture with 31 unemployed and in the No Previous Employment group, with 619 more people. It descends into Construction, which has 749 fewer unemployed or Industry with 50 fewer unemployed.
By sex, of the total number of unemployed in the Community of Madrid in the third month of the year, 115,231 are men and 167,394 are women. By age, unemployment among young people under 25 increases by 687 people, while the group over 25 reaches 261,653 unemployed, with a decrease of 345 people.
The lowest figure in a month of March for 18 years
In the whole of Spain, the number of unemployed and unemployed registered in the offices of the State Public Employment Service (SEPE), at the end of March, has decreased by 22,934 in relation to the previous month (-0.9%).
The total registered unemployment has stood at 2,419,712 people, the lowest figure in a month of March for 18 years. In year-on-year terms, registered unemployment fell by 160,426 people (-6.2%).
By economic sectors, with respect to February, the registered unemployment fell in Services by 18,852 people (-1.1%), Construction by 5,846 people (-3.4%) and Industry by 1,482 people (-0.8%). It increases very slightly in Agriculture by 365 people (0.5%) and among the No Previous Job collective by 2,881 people (1.3%).
By sex, female unemployment fell by 14,841 women (-1%) to 1,458,572, marking its lowest figure this month since 2008. With respect to the month of March 2025, female unemployment fell by 95,206 (-6.1%). For its part, male unemployment stands at 961,140 men, with a decrease of 8,093 (-0.8%), compared to the month of February. With respect to the month of March 2025, male unemployment fell by 65,220 men (-6.4%).
In terms of age distribution, unemployment among young people under 25 years of age fell in March by 431 people (-0.2%) compared to the previous month. The total number of unemployed young people stands at 188,977, the lowest figure recorded in a month of March in the historical series.
Unemployment by Autonomous Communities
The unemployment recorded in March 2026 fell in fourteen Autonomous Communities, the falls in absolute figures occur in: Andalusia (-8.836), Catalonia (-3.777) and Valencian Community (-2.467). It hardly varies in the remaining three communities: Community of the Canary Islands (843 people), Community of Madrid (342 people) and Basque Country (179 people).
Contracts
The total number of contracts registered during the month of March was 1,311,070 with an increase of 144,469 (12.4%) more than in the same month of the previous year. Of these, 576,532 employment contracts are of an indefinite nature and account for 44 per cent of all contracts.
In this line, 189,212 contracts were registered in the Community of Madrid in March, which represents an increase of 15.71% in relation to the month of February.
