The subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Eladio Santos, praised on Thursday the work of the Local Police of O Barco de Valdeorras for being "a body that is at the forefront of proximity, prevention and road safety". He said so during the inauguration of the new facilities of the Local Police, located on Doctor Pérez Lista Street, where he was accompanied by the mayor, Aurentino Alonso.
In his speech, Eladio Santos congratulated the City Council of O Barco de Valdeorras for the habilitation of a new modern space, renovated and with better conditions so that the municipal body can develop its work with professionalism. "Investing in the Local Police is investing in security and coexistence," he said.
In addition, the subdelegate acknowledged the effort made daily by all members of the body, who are "the first reference for citizenship, those who are closest to the people." "It is a work that is seen in the streets, in schools, in neighborhoods, in shops and that solves the daily problems of the neighbors of the municipality," he said.
He also appreciated the fundamental collaboration of the Local Police with the General Directorate of Traffic, since O Barco de Valdeorras is the only locality in the province, apart from the capital, where practical driving tests are carried out. In addition, Santos highlighted that it is an active Local Police, which adheres to traffic campaigns and carries out controls, with constant collaboration with the Civil Guard. “Although sometimes it goes unnoticed, it is essential to thank the local body for the work it does in terms of prevention and road education,” he said.
Distinctions for the performance in the DANA
In the act, the subdelegate of the Government handed over to three members of the Local Police the honorary badges awarded by the Ministry of the Interior for participation in emergency and security devices during the DANA disaster that affected the Valencian Community, Castilla-Lana Mancha and Andalusia in 2024. Those recognized for their work were Fernando Hernández González, Gonzalo González Prada and José López García.
Santos thanked them for their direct participation in security arrangements, care for citizens and humanitarian and reconstruction work. "It was a complex and necessary work that makes clear the vocation of service to the citizenship of municipal agents and the Government wants to recognize it with these distinctions," he explained.
