Who is IMI for?
The IMI system is intended exclusively for the public authorities of the Member States and is not accessible to citizens or businesses.
Citizens and companies have other channels to obtain information and/or submit their complaints in relation to matters of European scale (in the section on links You will be able to see some of them).
The public authorities called upon to participate in the system are all those that are obliged to cooperate with their counterparts in Europe as a result of the legislation on the internal market, and more specifically those rules, often regulations and directives, for which the use of the IMI system is approved (see updated list). here).
Both state, regional and local authorities will be able to participate in the IMI system. The aggregation level to which they are to participate can be very diverse, e.g. a general address, a sub-address, a service, etc. The aim is to involve those units and people who are really active in implementing the legislation. It is these units and people who will find themselves on a more or less daily basis in cases of a cross-border nature, displacement, etc. which will entail the need to contact the authorities of the 'home' state of the interested party (company or individual) to exchange consultations and information.
Both for the registration of new authorities and for the subsequent attention to their needs, there is also a set of coordinators who lend their support.
