Security during the 96 hours and 40 minutes that Pope Leo XIV spent in the Community of Madrid, between June 6 and 9, within the itinerary of his visit to Spain, has passed without incident and as scheduled, thanks to the work of the 10,300 agents of the National Police and the Civil Guard who have been part of the largest police deployment of the democratic stage.
For this reason, the delegate of the Government of Spain in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín, considers it “another success of Spain” as the organizing country of great events in which “the highest grade” has been achieved, something that is a source of pride for the city and for the whole country.
He also wanted to thank the members of the Security Forces for their work; the institutions, their collaboration; and the citizens of Madrid who, once again, have been “an example of coexistence, tolerance and enjoyment”.
The visit has taken place without significant incidents, and has been monitored in real time from a monitoring office activated at the headquarters of the Government Delegation, headed by the Government delegate, who has been accompanied by the Government subdelegate, Pilar Trinidad, and the heads of the Citizen Security units, Javier López (from the Command Center installed in the Canillas police complex), and Civil Protection, Fabián Bejarano.
Demanding devices
The devices designed have taken into account the risks associated with an event of this nature, such as the threat of international terrorism or the action of radical groups, to be able to respond to them.
Among the most complex moments, the tours in Papamóvil, a total of five, since they have required a large presence of agents on the ground and also secure the buildings that surrounded everything to the path of the vehicle.
The National Police, which has mobilized 9,700 personnel, has worked in several areas (intelligence and cybersecurity; public order and foreign security; protection, citizen security; accreditations, volunteers, internal and external transport and support), and most of its units and vehicles, helicopters, drones and counter-insurgency systems have been deployed.
The contribution of the Civil Guard, with 625 agents, has focused mainly on the strengthening of security in the State Pavilion of the Barajas airport as in the Royal Palace.
Transport and culture
Francisco Martín recalled that, on the part of Renfe and Adif, the places available on trains have been increased to facilitate the arrival of pilgrims by public transport.
From a cultural point of view, the White Night (and Yellow Night) has been celebrated during the weekend, which has allowed the night visit of many spaces and museums.
All this as a sign of the support and involvement of the Government of Spain to this visit.
Finally, Francis Martin wanted the messages sent by Pope Leo XIV during his stay in the capital to be among those who have a moral guide in it and contribute to ending the positions that seek “exclusion, rupture and confrontation by confrontation.”
For his part, he has assured that the Government of Spain will continue to work “in favor of peace, institutional respect and coexistence, and social justice.”
