- The stretch of action includes the rehabilitation of the firm in 10.1 kilometers of the inner R-2 highway and in 17.5 kilometers of the M-50, as well as nine complete links, two trunk toll beaches and 14 medium steps.

The Council of Ministers has today authorized the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility to tender for an estimated value of about 21.3 million euros (VAT not included) a works contract to rehabilitate about 27.3 kilometers of road on the R-2 motorway and on the M-50 motorway in the Community of Madrid.
The Council of Ministers has given the green light to rehabilitate 10.1 kilometers of road on the inner R-2 highway. Specifically, it will operate from kilometer 0, which corresponds to the connection link with the M-40, to kilometer 10.1 (connection with the M-50).
Likewise, action will be taken along 17.5 kilometers of the M-50 motorway: from kilometer 0 (connection link with the A-1) to kilometer 17.5, corresponding to the connection with the second stretch of the M-50.
The stretch of action includes nine full links, two trunk toll beaches, the service roads existing along the stretch and the 14 existing median passes.
This action approved today for the rehabilitation of 27 kilometers of road on the R-2 and M-50 is in addition to another recently authorized by the Council of Ministers for rehabilitate 45 km of R-2 road, between the airport of Torrejón and Taracena.
Description of the works
The works consist of the milling and replacement of the rolling layer with discontinuous bituminous mixture with the aim of significantly increasing the structural capacity of the firm to adapt it to the actions of the traffic and thus extending its useful life period.
For the sections that have been considered as “singular areas” in which the esplanade is considered to be affected or in the process of affliction, it will be necessary to demolish the entire pavement and extend the different layers of the package of firmes.
Additionally, the replacement of the horizontal signaling and the beaconing elements has been planned. There will also be the restoration of the coils of the nine existing aphore stations in the section and of the expansion joints of the structures located in the scope of action.
SEITT’s investment plan
This work is part of the investment plan of the State Society for Land Transport Infrastructure, S.M.E., S.A. (SEITT), empresa pública dependiente del Ministerio de Transportes y Movilidad Sostenible. The objective of this plan, endowed with 455 million euros until 2032, is to return to an optimal state of operation the motorways reverted to the State (such as the R-2, R-3, R-4, R-5, and others such as the AP-36, AP-41, AP-7 in Alicante and Cartagena, and the M-12), as well as the free sections managed by the entity, as is the case of the M-50.
The plan includes interventions in eight priority areas: firm rehabilitation, tunnels, structures, signage, Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and toll, noise reduction, lighting and capacity improvements. Specifically, the rehabilitation of firmes represents 50.8% of the total budget, being therefore the main axis of this modernization program.
