According to the information transmitted by the Civil Guard itself, there has been no situation of abandonment, much less can it be seriously maintained that Arganda del Rey has been without service for 23 days. There may have been specific moments of coincidence with other actions or need for support from the Local Police, something normal in any coordinated security system. But turning that into a story of helplessness is simply a falsehood.
What is really serious is that the Armed Institute is being used in a partisan way to fabricate a political controversy against the Spanish Government. Accusing the Civil Guard of leaving office is a major irresponsibility. Not only because it is false, but because it means putting under suspicion professionals who work every day with efficiency, commitment and loyalty to the public service and to Arganda del Rey.
As a result of the impeccable and rigorous work of the Civil Guard, Arganda del Rey has been reducing its crime rate for three consecutive years, with a very significant reduction in the last year.
If there were any real security problems that really worried the mayor of Arganda del Rey, instead of leaking false news to give the general secretary of his party an argument with which to try to attack the government during his visit to the municipality, he would have done what corresponds to any serious public official: convening a Local Security Board.
It is also particularly striking that those who today try to erode the Civil Guard did not show the same desire to denounce when, a few weeks ago, the action of the Armed Institute allowed intervention against crime in the municipality.
Earlier this year, the GC carried out a major operation against a juvenile criminal group operating in the locality, composed of members of Trinitarians, Blood and Forty-Two, with 17 people arrested and investigated for serious crimes, including threats, injuries, robberies with violence, extortion and membership of a criminal organization. At that time, there was no criticism of the performance or the situation of the Civil Guard; on the contrary, its results were publicly known and disseminated in a more than questionable way by the City Council, with the mayor in the first line of photo.
The Civil Guard has been carrying out constant work in Arganda del Rey for decades with rigor and a maximum level of demand, as it corresponds in a municipality of its characteristics. Its commitment has been reflected in the sustained increase of the catalog to the current 100 troops, with a level of occupation always above 84%.
Likewise, the Ministry of the Interior promoted in 2022 the project of the new headquarters of the Civil Guard in Arganda del Rey, with its planned inauguration in the coming months, a relevant investment to reinforce the security infrastructures of the municipality.
The Government Delegation will not accept that the name of the Civil Guard be tarnished to fuel a partisan strategy. The Civil Guard deserves respect, not manipulation; recognition, not interested attacks; and institutional support, not ingratitude. Much more in a municipality in which the Government of Spain has been committing resources, presence and investments in security matters.
Accusing the Civil Guard of leaving office without any basis is a major irresponsibility. The one who should apologise is the one who intends to use the Armed Institute politically after having benefited from its work, its operations and the sustained effort of the Government of Spain in its municipality.
