The subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Eladio Santos, reaffirmed "the Government of Spain's firm commitment to security", as shown by the investment of about 4 million euros for the repair of the damage caused by last year's forest fires on the roads of the province's state network. The subdelegate supervised today a slope protection action at the N-120, in the municipality of A Rúa, which is part of the aforementioned emergency works.
The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, through the State Road Demarcation in Galicia, executes the interventions aimed at repairing the damages caused by last summer fires on the N-120 and N-525 roads and on the A-52 motorway. These actions consist of slope protection, signage, drainage, beaconing and closure.
The deputy delegate stressed that "the Government of Spain responds to the disaster suffered in the province of Ourense last summer with investment and real actions to guarantee the safety of users of the roads". “In a difficult time for our territory, once again the Government acts in order to guarantee the proper connection between all the municipalities of the province, thus supporting the Ourensans,” he said.
SLOPE STABILIZATION ON THE N-120
In particular, Eladio Santos verified this morning the progress of the slope stabilization work, awarded to the company Xermolo for 1.5 million euros. "The fires caused erosion problems by burning the vegetation contained in the slopes, for which it is necessary to ensure them to avoid landslides," he explained.
In this performance at the N-120, which began in January, 12 people are working who place 30,000 square meters of triple twist mesh and 7,000 square meters of reinforced cable mesh with 700 bolts. The machines used for this intervention are a crane and a drilling machine. Already in the last stretch of the works, several stretches of screen will be installed to contain possible detachments. This performance ranges from the kilometric points 468+900 to 472+800.
9 MILLION FOR THE BORRASCAS
Eladio Santos thanked the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility for its sensitivity with the repair of key infrastructures in the province of Ourense, as it also invested an additional 9 million euros to fix the roads of the State network damaged by the successive storms at the beginning of this year. For this reason, the subdelegate described it as essential to mobilize the necessary resources to strengthen infrastructures, prevent risks and protect people. “Security is the government’s absolute priority,” he said.
AID FOR MUNICIPAL ROADS
Apart from its own investment in the state road network, the subdelegate recalled, the Government of Spain convened a line of subsidies to repair damage to municipal infrastructure and provincial road network as a result of the forest fires. “The government not only fixes its infrastructures to guarantee security, but also helps other administrations to finance the repairs of theirs,” he explained.
