- To analyse the actions of the different ministerial departments of the General Administration of the State, and of the public bodies attached or dependent on them, in relation to the use of the official languages of the Autonomous Communities in guarantee of the right of use of them by citizens.
- Propose guidelines and criteria of a general nature that facilitate the coordination of the organs of the General Administration of the State in the use of official languages.
- To inform and submit for the approval of the Government, through the Minister of Public Administrations, the proposals, the organizational measures and the action plans or the objectives to be met, both generally by the General Administration of the State and the Public Agencies linked or dependent on it, as well as in each of the specific areas of action of the latter in relation to the recognition and use of the official languages, being able, where appropriate, to establish partial objectives, of a progressive nature, when the objective difficulties for their full and direct compliance so advise, in the opinion of the Council.
- To propose the lines of action to be developed and the objectives to be achieved by the various ministerial departments and other public bodies linked or dependent on them in relation to the use of official languages.
- Inform the proposals in the field of official languages that are processed through any of the ministerial departments.
- Promote the dissemination in Spanish society of the values of multilingualism and reinforce the implementation of measures that contribute to this end.
