The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, met today in Madrid with the Secretary of State for Security, Aina Calvo, to advance in the reinforcement of police and Civil Guard resources that will be necessary in Galicia to meet the security challenges of this summer.
Pedro Blanco and Aina Calvo reviewed the needs and circumstances that will occur in Galicia in the months of July and August. Both coincided in pointing out the exceptionality of this summer in Galicia, as the traditional arrival of visitors converges with the prevention of forest fires and, in particular, with the total eclipse of August 12.
With regard to the eclipse, the delegate conveyed to the Secretary of State the expectation that is being generated around this phenomenon in Galicia, since it is one of the Communities in which the eclipse can best be seen, both in time and in extension of the territory. Pedro Blanco transferred to Aina Calvo the advances in the organization of mobility and citizen care devices coordinated by the Government Delegation in Galicia according to the indications of the Interministerial Commission and the working groups established by the Government of Spain.
Infrastructures
Pedro Blanco and Aina Calvo reviewed the projects that are in progress and those planned to improve the State Security Infrastructures in Galicia. The delegate transferred to the Secretary of State the importance of works that are being executed and that are going to be initiated, such as the Civil Guard Headquarters of Cambados or the new A Fonsagrada Headquarters.
They also reviewed the projects included in the recent approval of the second phase of the Extraordinary Infrastructure Plan for State Security (Plise II), which will allow the construction of new National Police stations in Lugo, Ferrol and Pontevedra, with a joint investment of 26.5 million euros.
National Police Station of Santiago
At the meeting, the delegate and the Secretary of State evaluated the provisional solutions adopted in the face of the damage caused by the fire on February 12 at the Santiago Police Station. Both agreed on the need to provide solutions to citizens that allow comfortable access to services as basic as the filing of complaints or the preparation of identification documents, while guaranteeing comfortable working conditions for agents and civil servants. To guarantee both aspects, a specific location will be set up in the Santa Marta neighborhood, which will host, in the shortest possible time, the main services of attention to citizens (ID and complaints) as well as other police units.
With regard to the repair of the damage caused in the building of Padrón Avenue, the Secretary of State works with the will to speed up the repair of the police station to restore normality as soon as possible.
