The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco highlighted today in Boiro the commitment of the Government of Pedro Sánchez to support Galician families and public education. He did so during a visit to the El Cisne bookstore, where he reported on state support programs for the Galician education system. Thus, he explained that the Ministry of Education approached the Xunta for the last five years 13.5 million euros within the Territorial Cooperation Program for the financing of textbooks and didactic material, to which is added the 2.4 million approved this week by the Council of Ministers, to reach almost 16 million euros destined to support Galician families in the purchase of these school materials.
The latter funds are part of the territorial allocation approved by the Government for 2026, which has a state budget of 58.5 million euros and will allow the Ministry of Education to finance grants for students of Primary, ESO, Baccalaureate and Vocational Training in centers supported with public funds.
The delegate stressed that this program has the objective of supporting families and strengthening the equity of the educational system, ensuring that no unfavorable economic situation limits the access of students to basic resources for their learning. In this regard, he recalled that according to data from the INE each Galician family allocates around 400 euros per year per child in school supplies, so this aid is fundamental.
Pedro Blanco also highlighted the government’s support for the Galician public education system in recent years. Thus, he explained that the Government transferred to the Xunta 308 million euros to strengthen non-university education, of which 200 million were allocated to Primary, ESO and Baccalaureate and 108 million to Vocational Training, allowing more than 42,000 new places to be created in training cycles.
During the event, in which he was accompanied by the deputy mayor of Boiro, Luis Ruiz, and the councilor for Trade, Training and Employment, Roberto Lojo, the delegate also referred to the new Royal Decree of scholarships approved by the Council of Ministers for the academic year 2026-2027, which establishes a historical investment of 2,559 million euros, the ninth consecutive increase since 2018.
This reinforcement of scholarships will also have a significant impact in Galicia, where 54,000 families currently receive aid from the Ministry, with an economic injection of 132 million euros, 59% more than nine years ago.
Pedro Blanco stressed that these policies guarantee equal opportunities and strengthen access to public education, ensuring that no student sees his future limited by the economic situation of his family.
