· Thirty municipalities of the Sierra Norte have participated and have reported on the activities they have planned around this phenomenon.

Some thirty municipalities of the Sierra Norte de Madrid have participated today in the first of the four meetings convened by the Delegation of the Government of Spain in Madrid for the planning and institutional coordination of the necessary security measures for the events that will be held on the occasion of the solar eclipse on August 12.
In this sense, Francisco Martín, wanted to convey to the citizens a message of prudence before such a “unique and extraordinary” occasion and the request to all those who come to see it to “attend to the indications that are going to be given from the official services, both in terms of health, because it will be important to look towards the sun with adequate protection, but also in terms of mobility, trying, if you want to make trips, to go to those official points that have been determined so that you can manage well that mobility and that response to possible incidents that may exist”.
In this regard, he recalled that the date of the event usually coincides with the season of high risk of fires and, therefore, he has asked those who come to be aware of it and avoid depositing waste that may be the source of spotlights. In the same way, he has asked those who are driving not to stop anywhere to witness it, but to respect the evacuation routes of the observation points.
He also stressed that the public administrations will work in a coordinated way to ensure that both security and mobility, as well as everything related to civil protection, are prepared to respond to this challenge.
A total of four meetings
In order to strengthen institutional and operational coordination with regard to the device that may be necessary in the event of the eclipse and at the request of the Secretariat of State for Security, in accordance with the provisions of Instruction 4/2026 of the Secretariat of State for Security, three other meetings are planned to deal with this matter. The next one will be tomorrow in El Molar and the remaining two, soon, in Collado Villalba and Alcalá de Henares.
In the first one, the Government delegate, in addition to the mayors and mayors of the area, the heads of the Citizen Security and Civil Protection units of the Delegation, Javier Robles and Fabián Bejarano; representatives of the State Security Forces and Bodies; of the General Directorate of Traffic; of the Community of Madrid and of the local police of the villages of the area have been accompanied.
In total, 93 municipalities in the Community of Madrid will have a high visibility of the eclipse. Therefore, the idea is to get to know the forecasts of all of them and, depending on the activity they have scheduled, to be able to have the complete map and size the appropriate mobility and security device, also taking into account that a massive mobilization of citizens is expected.
Buitrago Space
The meeting was held in the Buitrago Space, located in the former Satellite Communications Center of Telefónica (Lugar el Bosque, 3, 28730, Buitrago del Lozoya), which attendees have been able to visit at the end of the meeting.
Built in 1967 and declared a Cultural Asset (BIC) in the category of Scientific Site, the Buitrago de Lozoya communications station played a fundamental role in the history of science and technology of the last 20th century by serving as a link with NASA stations in the Apollo to the Moon missions.
It ceased operating as a satellite hub in 2003 due to the boom in fiber optics and currently operates as an exclusive corporate hub for Telefónica meetings, internal events and training activities.
