The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, through Adif, has completed the fundamental actions in the construction of the new station of Parla Norte, belonging to line C-4 of the nucleus of Cerca de Madrid. This project, developed within the framework of the Madrid Neighbourhood Services Improvement Plan, has an investment of 16.5 million euros and will boost sustainable mobility in the municipality and its area of influence.
Adif has already completed the construction of the passenger building of the new station, which has been projected as an urban landmark, an example of sustainable architecture, with an enveloping structure, in the form of ribs, that will act as protection of passengers and channeling of user flows, as indicated by Minister Óscar Puente at the beginning of the works of this infrastructure in 2024.
The building consists of a single floor distributed in three parts: central lobby, commercial area for cafeteria use and dependencies for the exploitation of the station and attention to the traveler.
The central lobby, located under the envelope of the metal structure in the form of “ribs”, has a glass enclosure and photovoltaic panels on its cover. In addition, the orientation of the roof allows you to enjoy natural lighting and climate comfort.
The station platforms, which reproduce the language and rhythm of the building’s “rib structure”, are also completed. The connection between both platforms is made with an accessible lower passage, equipped with elevators, mechanical stairs and fixed stairs.
In addition, Adif has completed the construction of the car park, which has 49 parking spaces, electric vehicle charging points and motorbike parking spaces. Next to the car park are the ‘Kiss & Train’ area and reserved areas for taxi and emergency bus stops.
The passenger building and parking are connected through an urbanized area of pedestrian access to the station, enhancing social interaction, accessibility and security. In the area of pedestrian approach, spaces have been reserved for the parking and recharging of bicycles and electric scooters and new mobility systems.
In the final phase
In the coming months it is planned to carry out the implementation of the installations of electricity, lighting, air conditioning, ventilation and air conditioning, anti-intrusion, closed circuit television, telecommunications and fire protection.
On the other hand, in coordination with Renfe, which will be responsible for the management of the station, the facilities corresponding to the Traveller Information System (SIV) will be completed, in which Renfe will provide the necessary equipment for this system (monitors, teleindicators, digital display cases, watches, speakers, interphones). In addition to the SIV’s equipment, Renfe will also be responsible for the station’s corporate signage, furniture, turnstiles and self-sale machines.
Finally, the actions relating to the rail control, command and signalling subsystem will be carried out. Once these works are completed, the global action will end with the application for the authorization of commissioning to the State Railway Safety Agency (AESF).
Response to new urban developments
Located in the northeast of the municipality, between the stations of Getafe Sector 3 and Parla, the station of Parla Norte will respond to new urban developments of the environment and will give access to the railway of urban and interurban proximity to more travelers, reducing the congestion of the current station of Parla. The terminal will also connect to other clean means of transport, such as the tram.
The C-4 line is the second with the highest demand in Madrid’s city centre and the Parla station the seventh with the highest volume of passengers. The functional study carried out by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility points out that Parla Norte, with a potential demand of more than 14,000 daily users, will allow a global saving of 900 hours a day for travelers from Cerca.
