The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, highlighted the role of the Galician rural as a space of opportunities and future during his intervention in the delivery of the Butelo de Ouro de la Feira do Butelo from A Fonsagrada. The event was accompanied by the Government’s deputy delegate in Lugo, Olimpia López; the mayor, Carlos López; the president of the Provincial Council, Carmela López Moreno; and other authorities.
Pedro Blanco congratulated the Comarcal Museum of A Fonsagrada, distinguished in this edition for its work in the promotion and conservation of the history and culture of the area, and pointed out that entities such as this one demonstrate that “the rural integrates past, present and future” and that “identity is one of its fundamental pillars”.
During the event, the delegate stressed that the basket represents “that perfect alliance between tradition and excellence”, a product born of popular wisdom and respect for the land that today competes in the best markets thanks to the quality and know-how of its producers. In addition, he thanked the City Council for its constant work to turn this event into a gastronomic and social reference capable of gathering neighbors and visitors every year around a table.
The delegate also stressed that fairs such as this one remember “the value of the authentic” and contribute to attracting visitors, generating economic activity and offering opportunities to the new generations who decide to stay or return to develop their project of life in the Lucense mountain.
Pedro Blanco reaffirmed the commitment of the Government of Spain to the development of rural areas, supporting producers, improving infrastructures and promoting initiatives that help to establish population and create employment, because “defending rural areas is defending an essential part of what we are as a country”.
Finally, he invited to continue carrying the name of A Fonsagrada high and to continue making the butelo a flag of Galician gastronomy, convinced that the rural is “full of talent, energy and future”.
