The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, highlighted the commitment of the government of Pedro Sánchez to reinforce social protection as a key tool “so that no woman has to choose between her security and her economic independence”. It did so during the inauguration of the day on Conciliation Measures and Social Protection with a Gender Violence Perspective, organized by the Government Delegation.
In the event, in which the deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, Julio Abalde, also participated, the delegate stressed the importance of public policies that allow victims to access benefits, maintain their job stability and rebuild their lives autonomously. In this regard, he stressed that social protection is “an essential tool of freedom” and that conciliation also acts as an element of prevention and support.
Pedro Blanco stressed that male violence goes beyond physical aggression and affects areas such as employment, health or economic stability of women. For this reason, he highlighted the relevance of measures promoted by the Government such as the suspension of the work contract with full entitlement to the benefit, specific subsidies or reinforced protection in access to social benefits.
The delegate also focused on the importance of continuous training of the professionals who work with the victims. “It is essential to continue training, updating and sharing knowledge in order to provide the best possible service and offer increasingly effective responses from the public sphere,” he said, explaining that this is the objective of conferences such as the one held today.
During her speech, she conveyed her recognition to the speaker of the day, Marina Dobarro Caamaño, head of the Permanent Disability Section of the INSS of A Coruña, for her contribution to the dissemination of specialized knowledge.
She also thanked the Head of the Coordination Unit against Violence against Women of the Government Delegation in Galicia, María Debén, for her work, as well as the Head Units for Combating Violence against Women of the Government Subdelegations, for their professionalism and daily involvement in this matter.
In the same way, she highlighted the work of the professionals of the social services and of the Women's Information Centers, highlighting their essential role in the accompaniment of victims and in the effective guarantee of their rights.
The delegate concluded by reiterating the commitment of the Government of Pedro Sánchez to the defense of women’s rights and the eradication of male violence, stressing that only through public action, institutional coordination and knowledge can effective responses be offered to victims.
Minute of silence
Before the start of the day, the attendees observed a minute of silence presided over by the government delegate in memory and condemnation of the femicides of Silvia María, Tatiana, María Dolores, Mercedes and María Paloma and the crimes of vicarious violence of Ainhara and Yaret. Pedro Blanco recalled that “each of these losses is a frontal attack on the rights and freedoms we earn, a step backwards in equality.”
In this context, the delegate reaffirmed that the Government of Spain “is not going to bend” in the fight against gender violence and against those who intend to deny or minimize it. “In these dark times, more than ever, we must draw strength and demand unity from all democratic forces, administrations, collectives, citizens and institutions, from the conviction that only in this way can we overcome violence against women,” he concluded.
