- Celebrate its Patron Saint Festivities in honor of the Virgen de Los Remedios from August 28 to September 1
- The Local Police will have the reinforcement of the Civil Guard and the technological support of last generation drones
The subdelegate of the Government in Madrid, Pilar Trinidad Núñez, and the mayor of Colmenar Viejo, Carlos Blázquez Rodríguez, co-chaired the Local Security Board held yesterday to coordinate the security device in the municipal patron saint’s parties.
Colmenar Viejo is thus preparing to celebrate its Festival of Remedies 2026, in honor of its patron saint the Virgen de los Remedios. Although the official calendar includes from Friday, August 28 to Tuesday, September 1, previous activities will take place as free concerts from this Friday, August 21. During the central days, the program will include, among other events, the traditional Hortelanos Contest, the transhumance of oxen, pyrotechnic shows, parades, verbenas and the Bullfighting Fair.
The main objective of the special operation is to ensure the correct development of the festivities through preventive tasks of surveillance, control of forums, traffic regulation and supervision of the development of the events. To this end, the Local Police staff will work closely with the Civil Guard troops stationed in the municipality, special patrols and punctual private security personnel. One of the main innovations, shared on the agenda of the session, will be the technological support of state-of-the-art drones recently incorporated into the media of the Local Police.
This deployment will strengthen the operational capacity in the nerve points of greater concentration of people, such as the Plaza de Toros, the Plaza del Pueblo and the Fairgrounds 'Las Huertas'. In order to ensure a respectful leisure environment, the Consistory will once again install a Violeta Point, a space for prevention, attention and awareness in matters of equality, enabled from Thursday, August 27.
Pilar Trinidad thanked the work done and insisted on a message of “prudence” and “responsibility” regarding pyrotechnics for the high risk of forest fires, appealing to the suspension of them, if the conditions for their celebration on August 28 so advise.
In relation to the celebration of public shows, during the Board we also reported on the initial approval of the “Municipal Ordinance regulating security in public shows, recreational activities and leisure events organized or authorized by the city council in public spaces located in the municipality of Colmenar Viejo”.
Safety balance
Finally, the session served to take stock of the latest crime data of the municipality that records a crime rate more than 12 points lower than the average of the Community of Madrid (55.2) according to the State Secretariat Crime Balance in March 2026.
As for the first quarter of the year, the indicators show a positive evolution with a decrease in the total of criminal offenses as a direct result of the decrease in infractions against heritage and despite the rise of cybercrimes, mainly related to computer fraud. Results that the Government’s deputy delegate has valued positively as “the fruit, to a large extent, of good cooperation and coordination between the different police forces.”
