The government delegate in Galicia, reaffirmed in Xove that Galicia is the community with the highest rate of access to the Plan Veo, with about 600 optics adhered, 67 of them in the province of Lugo, and more than 9,500 girls and boys benefited. He explained this during his visit to the Xove Optical Center, attached to this plan promoted by the Ministry of Health, where, accompanied by the manager, Carlos Calvo, he stressed that these data “reflect both the existing need and the good reception of a measure designed to reach those who need it most.”
During the visit, which was also attended by the deputy delegate in the province, Olimpia López, the delegate encouraged families to take advantage of this line of public aid, which allows access to up to 100 euros per year for children under 16 years of age for the purchase of glasses or lenses. Thus, he stressed “the importance of ensuring the visual health of children to strengthen equal opportunities”.
The delegate also stressed the educational impact of the initiative, remembering that a significant part of school difficulties may be linked to uncorrected vision problems. “We can’t allow a boy or girl to have a hard time following school because they don’t have glasses,” he said.
In addition, he thanked the involvement of professionals in the optical sector, fundamental to the development of the program, highlighting the collaboration with the General Council of Schools of Opticians - Optometrists to bring administration closer to the citizens and ensure that the aid reaches families effectively. “This is a social measure that improves the quality of life of boys and girls and supports Galician families,” he concluded.
The request can be made directly in the participating opticians, thus facilitating access to this resource. The program has a budget of 48 million euros and will be active until December 31, 2026.
