The Government delegate in Asturias, Adriana Lastra, and the provincial head of Traffic, Raquel Casado, presented the accident balance on the Asturian roads in the months of July and August.
“The data will always be bad as long as there is only one death on the road, it is an unbearable price for a modern and advanced society such as Spain,” said Lastra before counting the deaths in the last two months by five, four less than in the same period of 2023: “The Ministry of the Interior and the DGT are redoubling their efforts to reduce the number of road deaths.”
The provincial head of Traffic has highlighted that so far this year 14 people have died in traffic accidents on interurban roads in Asturias, nine less than in the same period of the previous year. “The road to fall accidents is improving and maintaining”, said Raquel Casado, who recalled that between July 1 and August 31 there was a record of long-distance travel on Spanish roads, more than 97.7 million (4.1 million more than in summer 2023, a 4.4 percent increase). In Asturias, the increase in mobility in July and August compared to identical dates of 2023 was 4.1 percent.

With five fatalities, 2024 was the fourth year with the fewest fatalities of the last ten in Asturias.
For months, in July there were two fatal accidents in which so many people died, two fewer than in July 2023. In August there were two fatal accidents with three deaths, two fewer than in August 2023.
In that period, five people died on the interurban roads of Asturias, four fewer deaths than in the same period last year.
By type of track. The cino fatalities took place on conventional roads, reducing deaths on motorways and motorways by two and on other interurban roads by 2023.
By means of displacement: One of the deceased was a motorcycle user, three tourists and one other vehicle (non-approved motorcycle). The fatal victims descend pedestrians (-1), motorcycles (-2), vans (-1) and other vehicles (-1), incrermenting tourism users in 1 compared to the previous year.
By sex: All the people who lost their lives were hombres.Respecto by 2023 two men and two women were reduced the fatalities.
By age. Three of the deceased were in the range of 35 to 44 years, one in the range of 15 to 24 and one in the range of 45 to 54. No one under the age of 14 or over the age of 65 lost their lives (in 2023 there were four people of that age range who lost their lives).
Security systems. Two of the deceased tourism users did not use the seatbelt.
Accident by autonomous communities. As for the location of the disaster, Andalusia is the autonomous community with the highest number of deaths (46, 19 percent of the total), followed by Castilla y León with 30 fatalities (12 percent). The greatest variations with respect to 2023 have occurred in the Community of Madrid and Catalonia, with 10 and 9 fewer deaths respectively.
