The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has begun the process of environmental assessment of the informative study of the railway network in the region of Pamplona after completing the audience and public information file, opened on March 31, 2023.
In this regard, it has already sent the file to the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge to activate the ordinary environmental assessment procedure provided for in Law 21/2013 on Environmental Assessment.
The environmental assessment will culminate in the Environmental Impact Statement, which will allow the final approval of the information study and the development of the next phases of the project.
The action plans to implement a new high-speed corridor of standard width suitable for mixed traffic (passengers and goods) and remodel the conventional railway line between the towns of Campanas and Zuasti, also including a new passenger station at the southern end of the municipality of Pamplona, bordering with that of Tares, and access by rail to the logistical facilities of the area.
It is also planned to implement the mixed width in the existing line between Campanas and Esquíroz and from that locality a route in variant with the current one, which accompanies the new corridor of standard width and which allows the elimination of the loop of the current railway line as it passes through the area of Pamplona.
New station of Pamplona
The new station of Pamplona, which is located substantially parallel to the AP-15 motorway, in the strip that the current urban planning reserves for the new station, provides connections with the logistics terminal of Noáin and with the railway facilities of the industrial estate of Landaben.
In the file, it is proposed to develop the high-speed corridor in double and wide track standard, bordering the towns of Salinas de Pamplona and Esquíroz by the west.
