The CIFP ‘Reina Victoria Eugenia’ has hosted a face-to-face workshop in which counselors, Vocational Training (VET) teachers, members of the management teams of secondary schools, staff of the Educational Administration and representatives of the unions interested in having more information, arguments and resources on Dual Vocational Training have participated, within the activities promoted within the framework of the agreement that both institutions signed for the promotion of Dual VET.
The workshop, which has been organized by the Bertelsmann Foundation together with the Provincial Directorate of Education of Melilla of the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports, was held in two days, the first of them developed on Tuesday, December 12 “FP Dual: FP general and intensive regime. Keys for teachers”.
The second, held on Wednesday, December 13: “Meet the Dual FP: A look from the Orientation” has focused on providing information, arguments and resources on Dual VET to the group of school counselors and teachers.
In particular, the current context of Vocational Training and the role that counselors play in involving teachers, families and tutors in the professional decisions of students have been addressed. Subsequently, the rapporteur has deepened the dual modality and its advantages, such as its ability to shorten distances between the labor and educational world, contributing to young people developing the skills sought by companies.
Likewise, the remaining challenges in relation to this training model and the resources available to promote it have been reviewed, as well as the orientation actions that can be carried out from secondary schools, both with students and with their families. Finally, there has been a space for debate and reflection with the attendees; as well as clarification of the doubts that have arisen.
A common long-term project
The workshop developed in Melilla is the result of the collaboration that has been initiated with the Provincial Directorate of Education to promote this modality of Professional Training in the city.
The activity is part of the collaboration agreement signed by the Bertelsmann Foundation, with the aim of achieving the implementation of a quality Dual VET in Spain, in addition to the publication “Know the Dual VET. A look from the orientation”, which was presented in January 2022 at the Bertelsmann Space in Madrid, the agreement contemplates the development of academic and professional actions, informative materials and dynamic workshops, so that this training model is more accessible to counselors and tutors working with secondary school students.
In the words of the Provincial Director of Education, Juan Ángel Berbel, the objective of this collaboration “is to familiarize and make more accessible the Dual VET to the professional counselors and tutors who work with the students, identifying their needs regarding the Dual VET”.
There are currently three dual projects operating in the city: CIFP Reina Victoria Eugenia has two: in the Higher Level Training Cycle (CFGS) of Laboratory and in the CFGS of International Trade; and IES Enrique Nieto has one: in the CFGS of Physical Conditioning.
There are five other projects waiting to be approved. These are the CFGS Administration and Finance, CFGM Microcomputer Systems and Networks, CFGS Administration of Computer Systems in Network (IES Leopoldo Queipo); CFGS Teaching and Socio-Sports Animation (IES Enrique Nieto); update of the CFGS Early Childhood Education project (IES Juan Antonio Fernández Pérez).
Royal Decree 659/2023, of 18 July, which develops the organization of the Vocational Training System, published in BOE on Saturday 23 July 2023, indicates the urgency of improving the training and requalification mechanisms, and adjusting them to the needs close to professional performance, which guarantees a regime of professional training and accompaniment, serves the strengthening and sustainability of the economy, be able to respond flexibly to the interests, expectations and aspirations of professional qualification of people throughout their lives and to the competences demanded by the world of work, from the necessary confluence and joint work and shared administrations of the responsible administrations.
“With Dual VET, a model already implemented in other EU countries, the intention is to expand the practical knowledge of students by developing professional qualification in productive, business or administrative environments, immersed in the work context,” said Berbel.
It is about doing so, he added, either through the general or intensive modality to which the student can be welcomed in his training with the appropriate guidelines both from the point of view of teaching and the company, both entities that have to be coordinated to make the adjustments that are deemed appropriate at all times.
