The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has completed the improvement works and new connections in the environment of the El Barrial link, between the A-6 and the M-40, in the Moncloa-Aravaca district of Madrid. The action has involved a total investment of 43.8 million euros (including VAT, technical assistance, expropriations and the construction budget).
With the entry into service of this new road, the incorporation from Avenida de la Victoria to the left road of the A-6 (direction Madrid) is now carried out by the new refurbished vials, which has allowed the definitive closure of the old direct exit, thus completing the third and final phase of the works.
In order to eliminate the braid that until now existed at the exit of the A-6 in a decreasing direction towards the M-40, during the last morning the last works have been carried out, which have consisted in the closure of the old direct exit to the A-6 direction Madrid (km 12.5), from the roundabout next to the Sixth Avenue shopping center.
The works have been aimed at improving the fluidity of traffic and road safety in an area of high circulation intensity in the province of Madrid.
The works have been progressively put into service to facilitate an orderly and safe transition to the new road configuration.
Performances
Thus, in November 2023, in a first phase, the following works were completed:
- Improvement of the connection of the outer road of the M-40 (decreasing direction) with the right road of the A-6 (direction A Coruña), widening from 1 to 2 lanes the branch that connected them along about 2 km in length and widening the cross-section on the A-6, in order to channel without interference the traffic coming from said branch.
- Improvement of the incorporation of the A-6 sense Coruña towards the M-40 sense decreasing, since they are now incorporated as their own lane to the M-40 (previously they were incorporated as acceleration lane). This has also led to the improvement of the M-40’s exit towards Pozuelo (previously the braid section was 4 lanes and now 5).
All this has involved works such as the expansion of cross-sections, the unfolding of vials, the expansion of existing structures and the execution of new ones, the lengthening of incorporation lanes and the construction of a new pedestrian walkway of single vain for the passage on the A-6 that joins the areas of El Barrial and La Florida.
In a second phase, completed during this month of October, the following actions to improve and remodel the urban road have been completed:
- The refurbishment of the connections of the A-6 to the Avenida de la Victoria: the old upper single carriageway of the aforementioned avenue on the railroad tracks has been replaced by a new roundabout on the racetrack.
- The extension of Alsasua Street, which connects with the previous gazebo.
- The new Tunnel of the aforementioned Alsasua Street, which links with the A-6 through the lateral track that ends under the arch bridge of Valdemarín.
- The road network around the railway station of El Barrial.
With this intervention, the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility reaffirms its commitment to improving the road infrastructure of the metropolitan area of Madrid and to promoting safer, more efficient and sustainable mobility.
