- There will be several affectations this summer both in the “Culebro Axis” (from km 46 -link with the A-4- to km 55.5 -link with the M-409-) and in Stretch II (between km 17 -link with the A-2- and 46 -link with the A-4-).
- The concrete firmes of the decreasing driveway of the Culebro Axis will be rehabilitated and the trunk structures of Stretch II of the M-50 will be waterproofed.
- The works for the improvement of these two sections were awarded in two contracts for a total amount of 52 million euros (VAT included).
- These works are part of the investment plan of SEITT, which has 470 million euros to repair the motorways reverted to the State and some free sections as is the case of the M-50.
The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, through the State Society of Terrestrial Transport Infrastructures (SEITT), will continue during this summer with the comprehensive improvement actions of the M-50, focused on the rehabilitation of the firm, signage, marking and adaptation of containment systems in several key sections, and which began in the summer of 2024.
During this summer of 2025, another intensive phase of work is going to be carried out for the completion of the aforementioned infrastructure. Within the planned works, the concrete signatures of the decreasing driveway of the Culebro Axis will be rehabilitated and the boards of the trunk structures of the M-50 in section II, between the A-2 and the A-4, will be waterproofed.
The works for the improvement of these two sections were awarded in two contracts for a total amount of 52 million euros (VAT included). In the first of these, which affects the Culebro Axis, the works were awarded for an amount of 24,210 million euros (VAT included). The second, on the improvement of Stretch II of 29 km in length, the works were awarded for a total amount of 27,789 million euros.
Expected phases of action
In order to avoid inconveniences to users as much as possible, it is planned to concentrate the actions that will most affect traffic in the months of July and August. Specifically, on the Culebro Axis, cuts will be made in the decreasing road (the one that runs in the direction M-409 towards A-4), enabling a lane in the increasing direction for the passage of vehicles.
Affectations in the Culebro Axis. During July and August, the decreasing road, direction M-409 towards A-4, will be progressively cut, enabling the rail in the opposite direction during the following phases:
-From 1st to 20th July: Cuts from kilometer 55 to 53.45, with access from the M-409 and M-407 direction A-4 (Córdoba).
-From 21st to 31st July: Cuts from km 53.7 to 49.86, with access from Fuenlabrada and Getafe direction A-4 Córdoba.
-From 1st to 10th August: Cortes from the km 49,86 to the 48,9.
-From 11th to 31st August: Cuts from km 48.9 to 46, with access from the R-4 direction Córdoba.
Affectations in Section 2 (A-2 – A-4, km 17-46). To carry out the waterproofing work, the following deviations have been planned:
-From June 23rd to July 31st: Cuts in the M-50’s growing driveway from km 23.4 to 26.4, with detour signposted by the M-45.
-From 30 June to 31 July, the M-50’s crescent driveway will be reduced to a single lane, between km 38.6 and 40.
-From the 1st to the 31st of August, the road will be reduced to a single lane, between the 40th and 38.6 km.
-From the 8th to the 31st of August, the road will be reduced to a single lane, between the 26.4 and 23.4 km.
Recommendations to users
Due to the high traffic intensity supported by the M-50, it is recommended to use alternative bypass roads such as the M-40 or the M-45 during the development of the works, especially to access the A-4 and A-42 motorways.
All detours will be duly signposted, and the information on the state of the works will be updated through the SEITT website: https://seitt.gob.es.
These actions are necessary to guarantee the security, functionality and durability of this strategic infrastructure, and will be carried out with the commitment to minimize as much as possible the inconvenience to users.
M-50 comprehensive improvement
These works are part of the plan of conservation and improvement of one of the fundamental arteries of the metropolitan mobility of Madrid, especially in two sections: the so-called “Culebro Axis”, which runs between the links with the A-4 and the M-409, and Section II between the A-2 and the A-4.
The works continue the work already carried out to date in these sections, which range from km 55.5 (link with the M-409) to km 17 (link with the A-2). Specifically, last summer we proceeded to the firm rehabilitation on the growing causeway of Eje Culebro. On the other hand, during the summer and autumn nights of 2024 and the spring of 2025, the works for the rehabilitation of the firm section of the M-50 in Section II, between the A-2 and A-4.
Thus, the rehabilitation of these sections is added to those developed between this summer and the summer of 2024, with which the full restoration of the entire M-50 Stretch III, between kilometers 55.5 (link to the M-409) and 85.3 (link to the A-6).
In this way, once all the works have been completed, the improvement of the M-50 from the link with the A-2 (km 17) to the link with the A-6 (km 85.3) will have been completed.
SEITT Investment Plan
These actions are part of the investment plan of SEITT, endowed with 470 million euros, whose objective is to return to an optimal state of operation the motorways reverted to the State (such as the R-2, R-3, R-4, R-5, and others such as the AP-36, AP-41, AP-7 in Alicante and Cartagena, and the M-12), as well as the free sections managed by the entity, as is the case of the M-50.
The plan includes interventions in eight priority areas: firm rehabilitation, tunnels, structures, signage, ITS and toll systems, noise reduction, lighting and capacity improvements. The rehabilitation of firmes represents 49.8% of the total budget, being therefore the main axis of this modernization program.
