Adif has set in motion the process to renew the track and strengthen the infrastructure of the conventional railway line linking Miranda de Ebro (Burgos) and Logroño (70.6 km) by bidding, for 5.7 million euros, the drafting contract for the project of this action.
The drafting of the project, prior to the tendering of the works, will also analyze the layout of the line to, where appropriate, adjust it in some points. It will also determine the reinforcement of tunnels, viaducts and bridges, as well as trenches and embankments, which are precise; it will improve the drainage system and adapt the gauges so that the line allows, where appropriate, the circulation of railway motorway services.
Adif undertakes the modernization of the road while tendering the improvement of its electrification, actions that will renew a route that is part of the connection between the Atlantic and Mediterranean corridors to increase its capacity and operability for passenger and goods circulations.
Modernization of the connection of the two corridors
Likewise, this action between Burgos and La Rioja is in addition to those recently awarded to modernize a total of 155 km of conventional network between La Rioja and Navarra: the works to also renew the road in the sections Cortes de Navarra - Castejón de Ebro, Castejón de Ebro - Tafalla and Castejón de Ebro - Fuenmayor.
In turn, these actions are in addition to those that Adif already has in place to modernize the conventional network and boost high speed in this area.
Conventional network renewal and high speed boost
In Navarre, on the Castejón-Alsasua line, Adif recently awarded the extension to 750 m of the sideways of the Caparroso, Carrascal and Uharte-Arakil stations, to be able to park trains of that length and promote the transport of goods.
In terms of passenger traffic, this conventional line will be the one that will connect with the layout of the new high-speed line of Navarre, which is currently being built, to start it once it is finished, through a link in Castejón, from which the wording of the project is already awarded.
In La Rioja, Adif is promoting the construction of the Rincon de Soto Variant (9.3 km) while tendering the drafting of the project to renew the Castejón-Logroño railway route (70.6 km), to expand its capacity and allow an increase in circulation speeds.
These actions contribute to the achievement of SDGs number 9 (promotion of reliable, sustainable and quality infrastructures), 7 (sustainability) and 8 (economic growth and promotion of employment).
