The delegate of the Government in La Rioja, Beatriz Arraiz Nalda, visited this morning the humanization works of the N-232A in Tirgo, an action that aims to humanize this crossing giving priority to those interventions that improve road safety, calm traffic, promote sustainable mobility and increase the quality of life of neighbors.
Arraiz Nalda has specified that last July, the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma) formalized, for an amount of 1,092,981.72 euros (VAT included), the works for the humanization of the N-232A road in Tirgo, between the km 455,000 and 458,000. The works began at the end of August and are scheduled to be completed in May 2024.
The action is included in the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, which will allocate up to 105 million euros from Next Generation EU funds to humanize urban sections of the State Road Network.
These works of humanization of the crossing are divided into two completely differentiated parts. The first of them includes two interurban sections, between the limit with the municipal term of Casalarreina and the beginning of the urban section of Tirgo, with a length of 1.35 kilometers, and the one between the end of the urban section of Tirgo and Cuzcurrita, with 1.14 kilometers.
In these interurban sections, the works have already been executed and the healing and reconstruction of the deteriorated firm that affected the intermediate layer and the rolling, as well as the horizontal signage, have been carried out.
The second of the interventions, which began this week, is undertaken in the urban area and the project contemplates a succession of actions that aim to give a more humanized character to this section. To this end, the sidewalks will be extended at the expense of reducing the lanes and paving them and the horizontal signage will be renewed in order to reduce the speed of traffic.
Also, to the west of the crossing with the LR-201, in addition to the increase in the width of the sidewalks, a new road will be executed narrower than the current one, at the same level of the sidewalks and with a treatment of printed concrete. In this section and up to the intersection with the LR-302, the circulation of heavy vehicles will be prohibited, through the appropriate signaling, both horizontal and vertical.
Particularly important is the action that affects the bridge over the River Tirón when contemplating its cleaning and rejoining, as well as the lifting and new waterproofing of its pavement and the reconstruction with stone silicas of the stretch that currently occupies a metal barrier. All this with the aim of providing uniformity to the entire section formed by the bridge itself and its access walls.
The works are completed with a rearrangement of the existing car parks, the installation of trees and benches, as well as the transfer of the bus stop. The supply and sanitation facilities that are affected will also be renovated.
Transfer of the section to the City of Tirgo
The humanization of the crossing implies its cession to the City of Tirgo, passing the City Council to be the new responsible for its conservation and maintenance as the owner of the road.
It should be noted that the cession of this section, which currently belongs to the State Road Network, will not impair the continuity of the State road network or its functionality, since there is a better alternative for long-distance traffic.
After the construction of the Tirgo Variant, the N-232 road, which ran within the municipality of Tirgo through the urban case, was renamed N-232A and lost its functionality within the State Road Network.
