The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, today highlighted “the value of artisanal work and the commitment to quality” represented by the Don Crisanto de Vilalba Cheixery, congratulating this family company for the recognition received in the Food Awards of Spain 2025. The Don Crisanto cheese, produced under the Protected Designation of Origin San Simón de la Costa, was distinguished as the best matured cow cheese and also received the special prize for the best cheese in Spain among the 135 samples presented.
During the visit, in which the mayor of Vilalba, Marta Ronco, and the deputy delegate in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, also participated, Pedro Blanco focused on the “conversion of a family farm into a sustainable project recognized at all levels”, extolling that they are already “three generations dedicated to the elaboration of cheeses, an example of what it means to produce from the Galician rural with a vision of the future, with care, identity and excellence”. In addition, the delegate highlighted Crisanto’s commitment to innovation without losing its essence, “one of the reasons that consolidates it as the most awarded queixería by the Ministry in the category of matured cheese”, which he received eight times.
Pedro Blanco recalled that the Government maintains a firm commitment to the Galician agri-food sector, boosting the rural environment and supporting products with designation of origin, such as the San Simón de la Costa, officially recognized in 1999 and converted into an emblem of the Galician Queixeira tradition.
“This award is also a recognition to small businesses in Galicia, to family firms with the capacity to undertake from a rural point of view and to the added value of food with denomination of origin such as San Simón de la Costa, a real treasure that is already part of our cultural and gastronomic heritage,” he added.
