The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, praised today in the opening of ‘Xantar 2024’ the role of Ourense and Galicia within the National Plan of Gastronomic Tourism, promoted by the Government of Spain within the framework of the policy of improving the tourism competitiveness of the country. Pedro Blanco intervened in the inauguration of the 25th edition of the International Gastronomic Tourism Fair ‘Xantar’, which is held in Expourense, accompanied by the subdelegate of the Government in the province, Eladio Santos.
The delegate valued the projects that, within this National Plan, the Government finances in the province of Ourense with 4 million euros. In particular, they are the tourism sustainability plans that have as protagonists the vineyards and the wine industry of the regions of Valdeorras and Ribeiro and the tourism plan around the octopus gastronomy in the Carballiño, and “that are already in progress thanks to the support of the Government of Spain,” he added.
These three plans are part of the set of investments that the Government of Spain agreed in recent years for the tourism modernization of 43 tourist destinations in Galicia and that exceed 108 million euros, between its own funds and the Government’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. “These are destinations that we are modernizing in Galicia in collaboration with the rest of administrations, associations and also with companies in the sector,” said Pedro Blanco.
The delegate wanted to highlight that this commitment of the Government, which took shape after the pandemic, is formed by a set of transversal actions “that improve not only tourism products, but also destination localities, the labor competition of workers, and the modernization and digitalization of the companies that provide these services.”
A fact that is particularly important in gastronomic and oenological tourism because, as the sector itself points out and the delegate recalled, “the people who opt for this tourism demand, increasingly, a complete experience, of quality, that, at the same time, is environmentally sustainable and that contributes to the economic and demographic growth of the peoples where it is based”.
Pedro Blanco ended his speech by congratulating the people “who make up the organization of Xantar for the 25 years of success of this salon”, and for making it a “reference at the national level”.
