The subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, claimed the cultural and natural beauty of Sobrado dos Monxes during her speech as the preacher of the XXIII Fiesta de la Trucha, a product that stood out as the flagship of Sobradesa gastronomy. María Rivas was accompanied by the mayor of Sobrado, Lisardo Santos, as well as by the presenter of the CRTVG Marcial Mouzo, who was also the preacher of the party.
María Rivas traveled through the history and geography of Sobrado, listing its benefits. The subdelegate highlighted the appointment of the villa as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2015, “with its monastery at the head, and next to the cathedrals of Lugo and Mondoñedo, as part of the Camino de Santiago”.
In fact, its monastery is one of the elements that most marked the history of Sobradesa, as the subdelegate recalled. “The monks created the fantastic lagoon that Sobrado has between the years 1,500 and 1,530, to serve the neighbors as irrigation of the lands and, of course, to raise all the trout that later ended up in the kitchens of the monastery itself,” said María Rivas.
These are the same trouts that continue to give sustenance to the city council, which today takes advantage of them to celebrate one of the most unique gastronomic events in Galicia. This was highlighted by the Government’s deputy delegate, who took the opportunity to highlight the commitment of the people of Sobrado dos Monxes to their tradition, “improving the party every year that passes”. “It is a pleasure for me and for Marcial to correspond to your affection and share this act with all of you,” said the deputy delegate.
Marcial Mouzo, during his speech in the proclamation, also highlighted the Sobradesa gastronomy, highlighting the numerous dishes that are made at the party and in everyday life with trout as a raw material. The presenter also had words for former preachers. As a duo, María Rivas and Marcial Mouzo invited the nephews to a happy holiday and a good lunch.
A government committed to the rural
María Rivas highlighted from Sobrado dos Monxes the programs that the Government is carrying out in rural areas, such as the ‘Administration near you’ or the program of rural posters, both with the purpose of making rural citizens, especially the elderly, know and have the possibility to carry out procedures from their locality. In the same line was the already completed Tax Agency, which allowed those over 65 years of age to make their income tax return from the facilities of their town hall and with the help of specialist staff.
Another of the programs that the subdelegate highlighted was the UNICO-Broadband, which executed 19.4 million euros in this 2024 to extend broadband to the whole of Galicia and 53.2 million to offer 5G connection in rural areas. He valued, in short, the impact of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan of the Government of Spain, “which makes possible a better Galicia with almost 4,000 million euros invested in the territory and an impact that directly affects the daily life of all citizens”.
