The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility is going to undertake the replacement works of the vehicle containment system (pretiles) of the La Hía viaduct, on the Santander road of the A-67 motorway (km 139,800), in Cantabria.
For the replacement of these pretiles it will be necessary to use heavy machinery (cranes, trucks and trucks) and personnel on the road, which makes it impossible to maintain the traffic on the viaduct and it will be necessary to completely cut off the traffic of the right road to Santander, between the links of Reinosa Norte (km 136) to the link of Santiurde (km 144).
These works, and the consequent affectations, will begin on Tuesday, January 21 from 8:00 a.m. and will last until the beginning of April. The traffic will be diverted by the N-611 road, which runs almost parallel, from the Reinosa Norte link (km 140 of the N-611) to Pesquera (km 149 of the N-611).
The vehicle containment system of the viaduct was seriously damaged on October 20 last year, following the accident of a special transport vehicle that forced its closure. In the following days, the transit of vehicles was restored, enabling a single circulation lane protected by a concrete barrier.
Characteristics of presses replacement works
The first phase of the work will consist of the removal of the current containment system and subsequent hydrodemolition (system consisting of the starting of small pieces of concrete using pressurized water) from the edge of the viaduct, in order to build a reinforced concrete basin where the new metal vehicle containment system is anchored.
This hydrodemolition is executed by using a robot that supplies water from the high-pressure unit, which in turn connects to a 25m3 tank container. The demolition process in this case, since the complete edge of the overhang is demolished, requires the installation of a cart that picks up the hulls resulting from the demolition.
Once the edge of the structure has been demolished, a trolley of metallic structure has been designed, built and approved to carry out the concretization of the zunchos that are going to support the new metallic pretile; and in which the new vehicle containment system that is installed in the viaduct will be supported.
Apart from the work indicated, and as a result of the inspections carried out on this and other viaducts of the A-67, the Ministry has decided to reinforce the pretiles of the viaducts in Pujayo, Montabliz, Boca Norte, Boca Sur, La Hía (ascending driveway), El Hayal and Cañeda, by reinforcing the anchors of the existing concrete pretiles.
These works of reinforcement of the anchors have already begun in the viaduct of Cañeda and in the left roadway, sense Palencia, of the viaduct of the Hía.
