The Minister of Territorial Policy and Public Service receives the portfolio of his predecessor, Carolina Darias
“I believe in the public because it belongs to everyone, guarantees rights and protects freedoms”
January 27, 2021. Miquel Iceta received this morning the portfolio of the Ministry of Territorial Policy and Public Function, from the hands of his predecessor, Carolina Darias, after having promised the position before the king.
In her speech, during the portfolio transfer event, Iceta has put her vision of Spain on the table. “I like Spain as it is: diverse, plural and united”. And he has delved into the idea: “I want a strong Spain in its unity and proud of its diversity.”
Iceta has appreciated the trust of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and has committed himself to exercising as a man of cooperation, collaboration, coordination and co-governance.
He has also appreciated the work of his predecessor, Carolina Darias. In this regard, he has assured that he will continue with the line of work undertaken, with the challenge of modernizing and digitizing the Administration, as well as continuing to make progress in obtaining European funds.
On the other hand, co-governance, in whose example the Interterritorial Council of the SNS has been erected, “is the way,” he said. Iceta has insisted that “there is no stronger strength than that which emerges from the agreement and the pact.”
He has also made a firm defense of the public: “It’s everyone’s business. It guarantees rights and protects freedoms.”
Iceta has expressly defended its "commitment to the Spanish Constitution" and has assured that it assumes the "faithful and committed" position with a progressive coalition program that is being carried out and with a country project.
Carolina Darias, in handing over the portfolio to Miquel Iceta, highlighted the year that she has been at the head of the Ministry of Territorial Policy and Public Function: “We have worked hard to implement exciting projects, such as the structuring of the country and territorial cohesion to achieve greater social cohesion, always side by side with everyone, because territorial cooperation is the basis for cohesion and sewing this country.”
