The number of public employees in Spain amounts to 2,595,575, according to the latest statistical bulletin of personnel at the service of public administrations, published by the Ministry of Territorial Policy and Public Function, corresponding to July 2019, which introduces important innovations both in its content and in its format.
The 2,595,575 public employees are distributed among the various public administrations as follows: 57.76% serve in the public sector of the autonomous communities, 19.80% in the public sector of the State and 22.43% in the public sector of local entities.
On the other hand, in all public administrations, 56% are career civil servants, 22.4% are working personnel and the rest of the staff (interim civil servants, contingent personnel and other personnel) accounts for 21.60%.
Another relevant fact is that 56.25% of the personnel in the service of public administrations are women and 43.75% are men.
