The Institute for Diversification and Energy Saving (IDAE) has approved the granting of aid to singular projects for the renovation of municipal outdoor lighting facilities to two Basque projects among other Spanish localities. Specifically, the IDAE grants loans at cost 0 of 3.7 million euros to the community of Debagoiena (formed by eight municipalities) and 500,000 euros to Mendaro.
The delegate of the Government in the Basque Country, Marisol Garmendia, has shown her satisfaction for the granting of these grants that “will lead to a substantial improvement in the effectiveness and sustainability of a service as fundamental as lighting in its streets and tracks. The government’s commitment to the transition to a greener society is clear and these loans at no cost to these municipalities, and many others in the rest of Spain, confirm this.”
Once the proposals of the aid applicants have been evaluated, the IDAE has resolved, in application of the evaluation criteria established in the Regulatory Bases and in the Call for Proposals, the admission of these two Gipuzkoan projects for which it proposes the granting of aid for a total amount of 4.2 million euros. Thus, the more than 60,000 inhabitants residing in the municipalities of Mendaro, Bergara, Elgeta, Antzuola, Oñati, Mondragon-Arrasate, Aretxabaleta, Eskoriatza and Salinas de Léniz will soon benefit from the modernization and higher quality of their outdoor lighting.
