The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has awarded for 18 million euros (VAT included) a contract, through Adif, to extend the section routes at the stations of Caparroso, Carrascal and Uharte-Arakil, located in Navarre on the conventional line Castejón de Ebro-Alsasua. The objective is to favor the operations and maneuvers of the transit of goods, optimizing the travel times, reducing incidents and improving the circulation.
The works will allow to have section roads with capacity to house freight trains of 750 m in the stations of the Navarre network. In all cases, the extension requires expanding the electrification, as well as adapting the track devices, communications, security facilities and interlocks.
In addition, the demolition of disused platforms and further away from the station buildings in Caparroso and Carrascal is included. In Uharte-Arakil, the platforms on the Altsasu side will be demolished and the Castejón side will be extended.
The extension of section routes strengthens the interoperability of the rail network and increases the operability and quality of the rail service, mainly for freight traffic. These works allow a greater traffic capacity and the improvement of the competitiveness of freight services.
This work is part of the initiatives planned for the improvement of freight traffic in the Atlantic Corridor of the Trans-European Transport Network TEN-T and contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goal SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), with which the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility is committed, and which has among its goals to develop reliable, sustainable, resilient and quality infrastructures.
This action has European funding through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. Funded by the European Union- NextGenerationEU.
