- The execution of the works has been addressed through two actions: the first, put into service today, and the second, inaugurated at the end of June.
- Vehicles will run more directly and safely, reducing the risk of accidents and travel times, and the capacity of the road infrastructure will be improved.
- The separation of trajectories contributes to better traffic management in one of the areas with greater circulation intensity in the province of Madrid.
The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has today put into service the two new branches on the M-40 from the M-14 and M-21, thus completing all the actions to improve the connections in the environment of the Metropolitan Riyadh stadium. The joint investment made was 12.8 million euros, including VAT.
To address the execution of the works, two actions were defined: the so-called “action 1”, put into service today, and the “action 2”, inaugurated at the end of last June.
This action 1, located between km 9 and 10 of the M-40, at the connection junction of the M-40 with the M-14, M-21 and A-2, aims to separate the trunk traffic of the bypass motorway from the traffic generated around the connection between the M-40 and the M-14 and M-21 roads. To this end, two new branches have been built that go from the M-14 and from the M-21 to the right-hand side service road of the M-40. In addition, the structure of the M-14 on the M-21 has been expanded in order to move the exit branch from the M-14 to the M-21 (Coslada direction) and to be able to fit the branch of the new structure on the M-40.
The so-called action 2 consisted in the construction of a new branch to service the traffic coming from the M-14 with sense south to the M-21 with sense Coslada, thus replacing the braiding movement necessary until then. This work also included the expansion of the platform on the south side of the M-21 in the areas before and after the Campezo pass (on the M-214 road).
These improvements represent a significant advance in the fluidity of traffic and road safety in one of the areas of greatest traffic intensity in the province of Madrid. The elimination of short braids considerably reduces the risk of accidents and improves the capacity of the road infrastructure. The new branches allow vehicles to circulate more directly and safely, especially at the entrances to the Metropolitan Riyadh Stadium during sports events and large influxes. In addition, the separation of trajectories contributes to better traffic management, reducing travel times and polluting emissions derived from the retentions.
With these works, the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility advances in the improvement of the road infrastructures of the metropolitan environment of Madrid, betting on a safer, more efficient and sustainable mobility.
