- The works will take place between Villaviciosa de Odón (km 66) and the link with the A-6 (km 85.3) of the M-50, and will last predictably until the end of October.
- This repair is in addition to the one completed last year from km 55, on the link with the M-409, and thus completes the renewal of the firm of section III of the M-50.
- The work is part of the SEITT investment plan, which has 470 million euros to repair the motorways reverted to the State and some free sections as is the case of the M-50.
The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, through the State Society of Terrestrial Transport Infrastructures (Seitt), begins tonight the second work campaign for the integral rehabilitation of the firm in Stretch III of the M-50, between kilometers 66 and 85.3.
These actions continue the work begun in May 2024 and are part of the overall project of rehabilitation of the road surface of this section, which ranges from the link with the M-409 (km 55.5) to the connection with the A-6 (km 85.3), also including the associated links.
The contract, awarded for an amount of 13,805 million euros (VAT included), has an execution period of 24 months and responds to the need to renew an infrastructure that has been in service for more than 20 years. Despite the punctual maintenance carried out since its inauguration in 2004, the firm shows signs of fissuring and aging of the asphalt, caused by the high volume of traffic. And this stretch supports an average daily intensity of 70,000 vehicles, of which 10% are heavy.
A key action within the SEITT Investment Plan
This project is part of SEITT’s ambitious investment plan, with a budget of 470 million euros, whose objective is to return to an optimal state of operation the motorways reverted to the State (such as the R-2, R-3, R-4, R-5, and others such as the AP-36, AP-41, AP-7 in Alicante and Cartagena, and the M-12), as well as the free sections managed by the entity, as is the case of the M-50.
The plan includes interventions in eight priority areas: firm rehabilitation, tunnels, structures, signage, ITS and toll systems, noise reduction, lighting and capacity improvements. The rehabilitation of firmes represents 49.8% of the total budget, being therefore the main axis of this modernization program.
Technical characteristics and traffic conditions
The works consist of milling, replacement and reinforcement of the existing road surface, with the aim of improving road safety, driving comfort and prolonging the useful life of the road. During the 2024 campaign, interventions were made at night between km 55.5 and km 66 to minimize the impact on users. This strategy will be maintained in the current campaign of 2025, which will complete the total rehabilitation of the stretch.
Alternative detours and specific signage will be enabled to redistribute traffic during the works. However, the use of alternative bypass roads (M-45 and M-40) is recommended, in order to avoid circulation in the area under construction and reduce travel times.
