- The contract includes the replacement of sleepers, rail and ballast in more than 8 km, as well as the installation of new track devices.
- The Ministry, through Adif, has already awarded the supplies of sleepers and track equipment for a total of 5.41 million euros; has authorized the supply of rail, for 3 million euros; and technical assistance to the works, for another 970.346 euros.
- This action will increase the reliability and regularity of the circulations and reduce maintenance costs.
The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has awarded for 11.25 million euros (VAT included) a contract to renew the track of the stretch of more than 8 km between Fuencarral and Tres Cantos, of the C-4 line of Neighbourhoods of Madrid.
This action, framed in the Proximity Plan and to be executed through Adif, will involve the replacement of sleepers, rail, ballast and track equipment with others of greater performance in that stretch comprised between the kilometer points 7/337 and 15/124, as well as in 400 meters of the Cantoblanco - San Sebastián de los Reyes branch.
The works will increase the reliability of the infrastructure and the regularity of the circulations, while reducing the maintenance costs in this line C-4 that has a high number of circulations with more than 1,600 weekly.
The works will be executed mostly during the maintenance band (night hours without rail traffic), so the circulation will not be affected.
Job Features
The section between the Fuencarral Bifurcation and the Tres Cantos station has mostly biblock sleepers with 54 kg rails, which will be replaced by concrete monobloc sleepers of greater strength and with less maintenance needs.
The current layer of ballast (stony mantle that gives stability to the tracks) will be removed and replaced by new material.
On the other hand, the track devices (elements of the infrastructure that allow the ramification and crossing of itineraries) will be replaced by others of greater performance, which facilitate the maneuvers and present less expense of their mobile parts.
With regard to the infrastructure of the section, the factory works and trenches are in good condition, so the actions will be limited to the reinforcement of some retaining walls and the cleaning and sanitation of ditches.
Related to all this, the Ministry, through Adif, has already awarded the contracts corresponding to the supplies of railway and cross-country equipment, for a total amount of 5.41 million euros (VAT included). In addition, it has listed the supply of rail, for another 3 million euros (VAT included) and technical assistance to the works, for 970,346 euros (VAT included).
This action contributes to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), which has among its goals the development of reliable, sustainable, resilient and quality infrastructures.
