Renfe has issued 575,000 free subscriptions of Neighbourhoods and Media Distancia in the Community of Madrid for travel between September 1 and December 31, 2022.
Of the total number of free certificates issued in the Community of Madrid, 79.2% (455,000) correspond to subscriptions for travel in the vicinity, and the remaining 20.8% (120,000) correspond to subscriptions issued for conventional Media Distancia services.
In addition, Renfe has issued 60,000 50% Avant Credits to travel between Madrid and the cities of Toledo, Puertollano, Cuenca, Albacete, Segovia, Valladolid, Medina del Campo and Salamanca.
In Spain as a whole, Renfe has issued 2.5 million free subscriptions for Neighbourhoods, Rodalies and Media Distancia and 50% Avant subscriptions for journeys between 1 September and 31 December last year.

Travelers who have used the free Short Stay, Rodalies or Media Distancia subscription in 2022 and have met the conditions of use, will be refunded from January 9 automatically for those who have made the payment by credit card.
All these people will be refunded the amount in the same current account to which they have linked the credit card with which the payment was made. In the event that the tickets have been purchased in cash, passengers will be able to go from January 15 to the stations’ points of sale.
To facilitate communication with customers, Renfe has set up a specific telephone line, 91 919 15 67, to report all of this.
New free subscriptions for 2023
Since last Thursday 29 and throughout its period of validity, Renfe users are acquiring the free subscriptions of Cerca, Rodalies and Media Distancia to travel until April 30. So far, 230,000 citizens have already acquired it
The extension of the gratuitousness also includes the Avant services between Ourense and A Coruña and between Madrid and Salamanca that are provided on the conventional wide network, and the new services of Murcia-Alicante by the high performance network.
For the rest of Avant’s rail services, the 50% discount is extended. In addition, since January 23, 2023, these subscriptions have been extended to 13 new relationships: Madrid–Palencia, Madrid–Zamora, León–Valladolid, León–Palencia, Burgos–Madrid, Burgos–Valladolid, Ourense–Zamora, Palencia–Valladolid, Huesca–Zaragoza, León–Segovia, Segovia-Zamora, Palencia–Segovia, Medina del Campo Alta Celera-Zamora.
Measures to promote good use of fertilizers
Since last December 7, the measures published in the Official State Gazette (BOE) have been in force, which modified the operation of sale and use of the free multi-travel titles of Media Distancia, restricts the formalization of trips, the acquisition of subscriptions and sanctions the repeated irregular uses, among other actions. In fact, more than 200 subscriptions have already been withdrawn.
