The Secretary of State for Transport and Sustainable Mobility, José Antonio Santano, informed the Minister of Local Policy, Infrastructure and Fight against Depopulation, Daniel Osés, by email this morning that the feasibility study of the section between Logroño and Miranda de Ebro, of passengers and goods, has obtained a favourable result for several alternatives contemplated in that study and will involve an investment of between 225 and 400 million euros depending on the chosen alternative.
Santano, has stressed that this action will be a benefit for the citizens of Rioja since it will save time for travelers of more than 21 minutes, increasing commercial speed by 46%, in addition to the reliability and performance of the existing service.
The Secretary of State has also told him that the next step is to take it to the Advisory Council on Transport and Sustainable Mobility to be able to tender the Informative Study in 2026 that analyzes in more detail the favorable alternatives of the Feasibility Study.
In addition, in all the solutions there will be a width changer in Miranda de Ebro to be able to connect the trains of the Logroño Miranda corridor to the High Speed of Burgos-Vitoria. For freight traffic, thus complying with the requirements of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), there will be a 740 m train overtaking and parking station for the section of these trains when necessary.
The Secretary of State has transmitted that the route of the study between Logroño and Miranda de Ebro is part of the Cantabrian Mediterranean corridor in which we work with the objective of meeting the deadlines set by the European Union for the Global TEN-T Network.
