The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has definitively approved the informative study of the high-speed railway section between Castejón (Navarra) and Logroño, included in the Cantabrian-Mediterranean Corridor, as well as its public information and audience record.
Thanks to this action, which will boost the traffic of people and goods by train, Aragón, Navarra, the Basque Country and, fundamentally, La Rioja will benefit since all of them have a significant flow of trips. The action will mean a significant reduction in travel times, since the journey between Castejón and Logroño, with an intermediate stop in Calsalvo, will go from the current 48 minutes to 30 minutes in the future. Not in vain, the line is designed for speeds of up to 200 km/h.
The promotion of the railway contributes to promoting sustainable and safe mobility, capturing private vehicle users and reducing congestion.
The action responds to the objectives of the Sustainable, Secure and Connected Mobility Strategy 2030, aimed at improving social cohesion, economic growth and solving real mobility problems.
Informative study object
The actions included in this informative study are aimed at the conditioning of the route of the current railway line “01-700: Bilbao Abando Indalecio Prieto -Casetas”, to allow circulations at 200-220 km/h for mixed traffic (goods and passengers), in the stretch between Castejón and Logroño.
In general terms, this is a refurbishment of the current railway line, renewing the track and adapting electrification and signalling systems in straight sections, including curve rectification. In the area of Alcanadre, due to environmental and geological conditions, a new section has been approached in a variant far from the current railway line. In the conditioning sections there is a single-track platform, the variant section is designed with a platform and double track assembly.
Solution definitely approved
After the period of public information and hearing of administrations and taking into account the environmental impact statement formulated by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, it has been decided to definitively approve “Alternative 6, formed by axes 1.2+2.3+3.2”, with the following modifications:
Section I: minor modifications in the definition of several road replacements and modification of the lower pass solution for suppression of pass at level in the municipality of Calsalvo.
Stretch II: double track assembly on the platform of the new variant from the first moment.
