The Council of Ministers today authorised the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility to tender with an estimated value of 19.6 million euros (VAT not included), through Adif, the drafting of the project and the installation works of the elements that will allow to manage the circulation in the future railway variant of Rincón de Soto, in La Rioja.
The contract includes actions in the field of control, command and signalling of the infrastructure, covering all railway safety facilities such as interlocks (devices that control the elements installed along the track, to establish routes and train manoeuvres), as well as their integration into Centralized Traffic Control (CTC) systems; in addition to fixed and luminous signalling systems, telecommunications and associated energy, among others.
These facilities will be a key part of the Rincon de Soto Variant, which already has civil and railway works of platform, track and electrification under way, with a total investment of 65 million euros (VAT included).
Rincon de Soto variant
The execution of the variant, which will run between the municipalities of Alfaro and Rincón de Soto, is part of the protocol established between the Ministry of Transport, the Government of La Rioja and Adif, on the actions in the Castejón-Logroño railway section, integrated in the Cantabrian-Mediterranean Corridor.
With a length of 9.3 km and a single track of Iberian width, several unique works stand out in its route, such as 8 upper steps; 15 protection structures of channels at the crosses of the platform and the replacement of vials with these irrigation infrastructures; and 36 drainage works (28 under railway platform and 8 in replacement of vials). In addition, a new station will be built in Rincón de Soto.
The project takes into account the initial and final connection with the existing road, the crossing with other infrastructures, the flooding area of the River Ebro, the crossing with relevant channels and the irrigation network.
European funding
The implementation of the Rincon de Soto Variant construction project will receive European funding through the “Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan”. Funded by the European Union-NextGenerationEU.
