The Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma), within the framework of the Recovery, Transition and Resilience Plan (PRTR), has launched a public tender for the humanization works of the N-232A road as it passes through the Rioja town of Tirgo.
The works, which are intended to integrate the crossing into the urban fabric of the municipality, amount to 1,254,015.57 euros (VAT included) and affect the route between the kilometer points 455,000 and 485,000. The official announcement of this tender will soon be published in the Official State Gazette (BOE).
This project is funded by the NextGenerationEU funds and is intended to prioritize actions that involve the transformation of the road and its adaptation to the urban landscape. To this end, initiatives that favor the safety of users, contribute to reduce the saturation of traffic in favor of new forms of sustainable mobility, reduce pollution in the area and improve the quality of life of neighbors will be positively valued.
The humanization of the crossing implies its subsequent cession to the City of Tirgo, which will become the new responsible for its conservation and maintenance as the owner of the road.
Performance characteristics
The largest performances are concentrated in the urban area, between the kilometric points 456,350 and 456,860, where two zones are distinguished:
- Zone 1: Mixed traffic section, urban and coming from the LR-201, between the kilometer points 456,350 and 456,620 (LR-201). In this route, it is proposed to reduce the width of the lanes to 3.25 meters and thus expand the available surface on the sidewalks to favor the mobility of pedestrians and contribute to calming traffic. Medium-sized trees and benches will be placed on the sidewalks.
- Zone 2: Almost exclusively urban traffic section, between the kilometric points 456,620 and 456,860. In this route, the lane width will go to 3.10m, while the pavement for the circulation of vehicles and the sidewalks will be located at the same level, which will give a more urban aspect and prioritize the mobility of pedestrians over vehicles. The pavement for the circulation of vehicles will consist of polished concrete, diamond and surface grouting to leave the arid seen. In addition, trees, banks and trash cans will be placed to integrate the road with the rest of the streets. In this area, after the work has been carried out, the movement of heavy vehicles will be prohibited.
On the other hand, in the interurban sections, outside the two previous zones, different works of rehabilitation of the firm will be carried out.
After the construction of the Tirgo Variant, the N-232 road lost its functionality and was renamed N-232A. The action is included in the PRTR, which will allocate up to 105 million euros from NextGenerationEU funds to humanize urban sections of the State Road Network.
