The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, and the mayor of Boqueixón, Ovidio Rodeiro, celebrated breakfast filloas the declaration of the Festa da Filloa de Lestedo as Festival of National Tourist Interest (FITN). They did so during the presentation of the festival as FITN, which was also attended by the Government’s subdelegate in A Coruña, María Rivas; the president of the Cultural Association of the Festa da Filloa de Lestedo, José Manuel Canabal, and philloeiras of the area.
Pedro Blanco valued the popular tradition that represents the feast and the very appointment as FITN. In his words, “this recognition puts in value the commitment to the tradition of an entire people, that of Lestedo, and also to its progress, something that represents this title that they have just received from the Government of Spain for their most representative festivity.” He highlighted the role of the neighbors and neighbors of the parish and in particular of their filloeiras, “without whom this feast could not go ahead, and to whom I would particularly like to congratulate because this achievement for all of Boqueixón and for all of Galicia is mostly his.”
“The great step achieved with the title of Festival of National Tourist Interest, fruit of the collaboration and joint work between the different administrations, makes the Festa da Filloa the only one in the region of Compostela that has this recognition, so the happiness of its promoters is more than just. They deserve to feel this pride, because they won it with decades of effort,” said the government delegate, who also highlighted the other FITN of Galicia, “such as the Carnival of Verín or the Reconquista of Vigo, as well as other gastronomic ones such as the Filloa, such as the Polbo de O Carballiño or the Bonito de Burela.”
The government delegate stressed that this is also a recognition of the filloa itself, “one of the recipes that has accompanied the Galicians throughout their lives, eliminating hunger in times and making them enjoy themselves, as every year here, in Boqueixón”.
Lestedo's Filloa Party
The Filloa de Lestedo Festival is a gastronomic and cultural exaltation that was born in 1984 when a group of friends and friends decided to extend the Carnival until Piñata Sunday, valuing a product of great roots in the area, such as filloa. At all times, the local involvement made it possible for this celebration to have become a reference in the Galician gastronomic calendar, overcoming, itself, regional borders.
The Cultural Association of the Filloa de Lestedo organizes, in collaboration with the Concello de Boqueixón, this event, which has the participation of more than 250 neighbors of the parish. Each year, an average of 40,000 people attend, tasting a total of about 60,000 filloas.
To pay tribute to it, the government delegate participated in the presentation of the party as FITN, in which two filloeiras were present that served this traditional Galician dish to the attendees, both in its version with sweet and salty fillings, in the same way that it is done at the party.
