The subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, has today moved to Melide to supervise the conservation and maintenance works that the Government is executing on the N-547 in the Arzúa -Melide stretch and that have begun today in this last municipality. This action has a budget of 493,179 euros.
María Rivas also highlighted the investment effort being made by the Government of Spain in the conservation and maintenance of the State Road Network in the province with more than 75 million euros since 2018. The subdelegate of the Government also recalled that “these works were an old demand of these two neighboring municipalities since it is a road that supports an average of 8,000 vehicles a day”.
The deputy delegate said that once again “the commitment of this Government to recover the time and investments lost in infrastructure of the province is materialized”.
In addition, as she said a few weeks ago in Arzúa, María Rivas recalled that “this action was a historical debt with these two municipalities and that with the works that are starting today will finally be paid off”.
The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, has taken advantage of her visit to Melide to remember the impulse that the Government is giving to the A-54 Motorway that is already in its “final stretch” and that will connect Lugo and Santiago in 50 minutes of travel. María Rivas stressed that this motorway will significantly increase road safety, both road and pedestrian, of the N-547, where there is currently an important transit of pilgrims.
The rehabilitation works that have begun today are the sections between the kilometers 47,400 and the 49,480 . The sections between the kilometer 62,240 and the 64,300 corresponding to the Arzúa crossing, which began a few weeks ago, have now been completed.
The deputy delegate, who was accompanied by the mayor of Melide, José Manuel Pérez Dolores and the deputy mayor, José Prado, stressed that this work will increase the road safety of this crossing.
Technical characteristics
With regard to the technical part of the works, these contemplate two types of actions depending on the degree of current deterioration of the firm in each of the crossings.
On the one hand, a superficial action, which includes the milling and replacement of the rolling layer of the areas without structural failures of the firm and a complete structural rehabilitation of the firm section, in those areas that present a worse state of conservation, where the pavement will be milled.
Finally, the action will be completed with the replacement of all the horizontal signage affected by the rehabilitation work.
This action constitutes a significant impulse to improve the quality of service of the existing state road infrastructure.
