The subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña participated today in the Festa do Queixo that this year reaches its 48th edition and in which she was in charge of delivering one of the three “Arzuán do Ano” awards granted to the journalist of Aa3 TV Tania Tabodada. The other two awards went to the Figueiroa ecological farm, Exceleite prize and Jesús Mosquera, researcher at the Universidade da Coruña.
In her opening speech, the subdelegate stressed that the Festa do Queixo is “an emblem for all and for all, marked in the calendars and that it is a must, both for its tradition and for its quality and importance.”
The subdelegate stressed that Arzúa is an example to follow for the innovation that it does every year, turning a unique product into a sign of identity and making the rural “a better place to live and work”. He also stressed the economic and tourist relevance that this activity represents for the city council “because gastronomy is also a value for attracting tourists and wealth”.
According to the subdelegate of the Government, Arzúa and Galicia are no longer understood without the cheeses of protected denomination “and without this feast” ensuring that “the unique and quality traditions must be present. We must value them, preserve them and promote them, as we want to do from the Government of Spain together with you.”
For María Rivas the Festa do Queixo, and all that it entails, is a way to make city “and to feel fully identified with your land and in this way to value the virtues and greatness of Arzúa”.
The deputy delegate thanked both the mayor, José Luis García López and the councilor for Tourism, Begoña Balado, for having invited her one more year “to queixear”. In addition, Maria Rivas congratulated the preacher of this edition, the actor, Tamar Nuevos, for his career and his successes.
The subdelegate took advantage of her visit to Arzúa to visit the 68 stalls with 53 cheese factories that this year attended the Festa do Queixo.
