The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has approved the public information file and definitively the route project to adapt the Plasencia crossing to the transit of pedestrians and bicycles. Thus, it is planned to invest 2.9 million euros (VAT included) in promoting sustainable, active and safe mobility in two sections of about 2.16 km in total of the N-110 and N-630A roads as they pass through the municipality of the province of Cáceres.
The project defines the humanization of the sections of both roads through the adaptation of the existing sidewalks, the construction of bike lanes and landscaped areas, the reordering and suppression of parking lots, the implementation of lighting, signaling elements, beaconing and defenses and other complementary works of the previous ones.
The project also includes measures aimed at improving mobility and road safety, such as the implementation of a new roundabout for calming traffic at km 404,050 of the N-110 or Avda road. del Valle.
In addition, a new connecting road is included between this and the “Huertas de la Isla” car park to improve its functionality, adapting it to the urban environment, and to facilitate pedestrian and cyclist mobility to the whole access, not only to the historic center of Plasencia, but to other points of interest in its environment such as the neighborhood of Miralvalle, the Bus station or the University campus.
Of the 2,159 km on which action is to be taken, 1,114 km belong to a stretch of the N-110 road and the remaining 1,045 km to the N-630A. Both sections present different typology, due to the presence of service roads, steeled roads with different typology of pavement and variable width, as well as the presence of infrastructures of passage over the river Jerte:
- Stretch N-110 (km 403,501 to 404,615). The stretch begins at km 403,501 Puente Nuevo and ends at km 404,615, intersection of the Avda. of the Valley with the km 471,350 of the N-630A. This stretch of crossing is constituted by the so-called Puente Nuevo and the Avenida del Valle.
- Stretch N-630A (km 471,350 to 472,395): This is a stretch of crossing between the intersection with the Avda. from the valley to the intersection of the valley with the Avda. del Ambroz, has a length of 1,045.00 m. It is a stretch divided in turn into three other singular subsections, based on the different avenues that configure it. These subsections are as follows, Avda. Calvo Sotelo, Trujillo Bridge and Avda. of Spain.
Both roads are two crossings interconnected with each other, but currently isolated for road traffic from the State Road Network. Therefore, after the execution of the works, it is planned to assign to the City Council the ownership of the section subject to action, in accordance with the regulations that establish the framework for the conclusion of agreements for the delivery to the City Councils of urban roads of the State network.
After this approval, which will soon be published in the Official State Gazette (BOE), the construction project will continue, where this action will be defined with the degree of detail necessary to make its construction and operation feasible, according to road regulations. Once this project is approved, the works will be tendered.
These works are funded by the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, which will allocate up to 302 million euros (VAT not included) from NextGenerationEU funds for sustainability, energy efficiency and noise action actions in the State Road Network.
