The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has awarded, through Adif AV and for an amount of 7.4 million euros (VAT included), the contract for the construction of the branch that will give direct access to the Plasencia station with the circulations coming from Madrid, on the Madrid-Extremadura High-Speed Line.
The link, which will connect the Talayuel-Plasencia route with the conventional Monfragüe-Plasencia line through a route of about 2.2 km, will run through the municipality of Malpartida de Plasencia and parallel to the Terzuelo stream, avoiding environmental affections to the riverside and the pools of its channel.
The project, which has been awarded €7.4 million to the UTE comprising Avintia Projects and Constructions, Management and Execution of Civil Works, Viuda de Sainz and Lurpelan Tunnelling, complements its integration into the environment with an upper pass of 45 m for vehicles and is compatible with an upper pass of fauna that covers the railway line.
Advances in high speed
After the implementation of the electrification between Plasencia and Badajoz, the actions to complete the high-speed shaft in Extremadura take place in different areas:
§ Baipás de Mérida: once the track assembly is completed, work is done on the installation of the catenary and the connections with the service routes will be followed, which will be carried out in coordination with the energy and CMS subsystems;
§ Progress is made in the installation of the ERTMS system in the Plasencia–Badajoz section and the excavation of the Dehesa del Terzuelo tunnel (1.5 km), one of the longest of the Talayuela–Plasencia route and one of its most unique structures;
§ The last stage of the work of renovation of roads, platforms and other elements of the stations of Mérida, Aljucén and Cáceres, after completing them at the station of Badajoz;
§ The Madrid-Oropesa section is under informative study by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility.
This action contributes to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 9, which has among its goals to develop reliable, sustainable and quality infrastructures.
