The delegate of the Government in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, has pointed out that with the implementation of the Southern Connection of Oliva “the Government responds to a historical demand of the citizens of the city”. This road, added the delegate, “will reduce the traffic that Oliva crosses, especially of heavy vehicles. This increases road safety and the quality of life of neighbours and neighbours”.
The N-332 road has historically constituted the main axis of vertebration of the Safor region and has supported more than 15,000 vehicles on average a day with 10% of heavy vehicles. The liberalization of the AP-7 motorway in January 2020 redistributed to this road the long-distance traffic that crossed the region. However, the traffic on the national road was maintained in about 10,000 vehicles with 7% of heavy vehicles crossing the urban center of Oliva. “The current crossing of the N-332 in the town of Oliva is a stretch that suffers a high congestion and dangerousness derived from its high traffic intensity and its route fitted into the urban fabric,” said the delegate. That is why the new Southern Connection of Oliva “is a fundamental work for the city and for the whole region”.
The Ministry of Transport. Mobility and Urban Agenda has earmarked 35.8M€ for this work, “one of the biggest investments of the Government in the Safor region”, according to the delegate.
Technical characteristics
The new connection has a total length of 2.5 km and its cross-section consists of two 3.5 metre wide lanes with 1.5 metre arches and one metre berms.
This new stretch of road has three connections:
The link of the N-332 road with the AP-7 motorway has been resolved through a trumpet-type link, with a structure that crosses the AP-7 saving the two roads without any support between them due to the strictness of its section.
· The existing link on the N-332 has been remodelled to make the traffic of the new road independent of the other movements with origin and destination the beaches, the industrial estate and the municipal roads.
· The connection of the new stretch of national road with the CV-715 road, which connects the municipalities of Oliva and Pego, has been resolved by means of a new road of 850 m that connects the existing weight link in the national road, with a new roundabout built on the CV-715 road, thus preventing the passage of this traffic through the urban center of Oliva.
· In order to facilitate and promote the mobility of pedestrians and cyclists, a connection is built at different levels between the urban center of Oliva and the Camí Vell de Pego, which will serve to channel pedestrian cycle traffic in this area, improving the transversal permeability of the infrastructure.
The actions have included landscape and environmental integration, the extension of all the ditches crossed by the trace, the replacement of the affected services, as well as vertical, horizontal signage and complementary elements that allow the full functionality of the infrastructure.
Plantations have been carried out on an area of more than 80,000 m2: 1,450 trees (cedars, pines and yours) and 6,517 shrubs (Adelfa, Taray, Coscoja, Romero and Lavender) that will act as carbon sinks to reduce the carbon footprint produced by the vehicles that circulate As a main sink due to its breadth, highlights the area of 50,000 m2 between the new road and its connection of the CV-715, which has been equipped with new plantations, existing ones have been adapted (mainly orange trees) and transplanted those that interfered with the trace (palms and olive trees, among others).
